Description

Together with Social Work, Sociology and Psychology, Gender Studies forms part of the Department of Social and Psychological Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. At Karlstad University, Gender Studies is concentrated to the Centre for Gender Studies (CGF) and involves researchers and disciplines across the university. The overall aim of the Centre for Gender Studies is to apply and continue to develop cross- and multidisciplinary approaches to Gender Studies issues. This happens through a mutually critical dialogue between different disciplines and gender theory. The Centre for Gender Studies also cooperate with the community and is a driving force in the development of applied Gender Studies. At the Centre for Gender Studies, both traditional academic project and projects in partnership with external actors are conducted.

The Centre for Gender Studies is recruiting a senior lecturer in Gender Studies with specialisation in applied Gender Studies and organisational change.

Duties

The position involves teaching Gender Studies, including course coordination and course development duties at bachelor and master level, as well as teaching commissioned courses in Gender Studies. The position further includes active participation in development work done by the subject, department and faculty in the areas of teaching, research and cooperation with the community. A central teaching area is gender equality focused on equality and equal treatment at the workplace. The successful applicant is expected to teach on campus and in distance education, in Swedish and English, to participate actively in the daily activities of the subject, and to contribute to the methodological development of applied Gender Studies in partnership with colleagues and in dialogue with the national and international research communities.

Qualification requirements

A PhD or equivalent academic qualification in a relevant field is required, in accordance with Ch. 4 Sec. 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. In addition, documented teaching skills and a completed course in teaching and learning in higher education are required. In special circumstances, this course may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment.

Assessment criteria

Special weight is given to documented experience of research and development projects. Special weight is also given to experience of innovation in the academy as well as documented teaching skills. Equal weight is given to research and teaching skills. Special weight is further given to good spoken and written skills in Swedish and English. 

Considerable weight is given to documented ability to cooperate, particularly to the ability to cooperate with the community. Considerable weight is also given to social skills such as ability to build good relationships with colleagues, take initiative and show enthusiasm for the work done by others. 

Weight is given to broad experience of Gender Studies and documented experience of applied Gender Studies.

Terms of employment

This is a full-time, non-fixed-term position with starting date at the earliest convenience. In order to promote cooperation and a good work environment, the successful applicant is expected to participate in the daily work at Karlstad University. A probationary period may be required.

Appointment is contingent upon necessary funding allocation decisions.

  • list of publications (describe your own role in cases of co-authorship)
  • copies of certificates and degrees
  • a maximum of ten academic publications and a maximum of five works designed to convey knowledge such as textbooks, educational software, or popular science articles
