Are you interested in teaching and research related to sustainable development? Do you have experience of environmental systems engineering? If so, this is an opportunity for you!

Background
The Department of Engineering and Chemical Sciences at the Faculty of Health, Science and Technology comprises four subjects: Environmental and Energy Systems, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, and Building and Construction Engineering. The department has around 50 members of staff and offers courses for four engineering programmes, teacher education and a Bachelor Degree programme in Chemistry.

Research in environmental and energy systems is mostly linked to the research group Pro2BE (Processes and Products for a Circular Bio Economy), centring on sustainable engineering development with an emphasis on energy efficiency, biofuel systems, purification techniques, and packaging design. We work to promote sustainability values in the area of forest resource utilisation. Read more about Pro2BE: https://www.kau.se/en/pro2be

Duties
Duties involve teaching and developing environmental and energy courses for Bachelor and Master engineering programmes, and possibly courses in related areas, as well as administrative tasks and examination.

Duties also involve contributing to ongoing research in the subject and developing new externally funded research projects. Industrial cooperation is an expected and standard part of duties.

Qualification requirements
A doctor's degree in environmental and energy systems or other relevant field, or corresponding qualification, is required for the position, as well as demonstrated teaching expertise and completed course in higher education pedagogy. In special circumstances, this course may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment.

Assessment criteria
Equal weight will be given to research and teaching expertise.

In the ranking process, special weight is given to:

  • professional experience of environmental and energy systems (in academia and industry)
  • research expertise and its relevance to purification or bio techniques in the area of Pro2BE's research fields
  • teaching expertise with documented experience of course development and pedagogical development in higher education.

Experience of process modelling in one of the softwares COMSOL, ChemCad, or MATLAB is given weight. Documented ability to teach in Swedish is also given weight as this is the language of instruction in most subject courses.

Karlstad University attaches great importance to applicants' personal qualities, since social and communicative skills, commitment to work and a positive attitude to colleagues and students are essential elements for a good work environment. We value staff who take responsibility for their tasks, have the ability to work independently, and take initiatives.
