Karlstad Business School at Karlstad University welcomes applications for a senior lectureship in Economics. Karlstad Business School is AACSB-accredited and was established in 2009, and comprises the disciplines Working Life Science, Business Administration, Information Systems, Law, Economics, and Statistics. The mission of Karlstad Business School is “We educate responsible professionals and conduct research with high societal impact”, which permeates all of our activities. We offer degree programmes and freestanding courses at all education levels with a strong basis in research conducted by both individual subjects as well as interdisciplinary research groups. Among the degree programmes you will find the Programme in Business and Economics, which offers a specialisation in economics or financial economics. Economics research at Karlstad University is primarily focused on applied microeconomics, but we also have an interest in expanding our research in macroeconomics and financial economics. We are now looking for a senior lecturer who actively wants to contribute to the continued development of Karlstad Business School.
Duties include teaching in economics and statistics. Teaching in statistics refers primarily to the introductory course in statistics. In terms of economics, you will mainly be teaching financial economics and macroeconomics. We are looking for a skilled teacher who want to actively participate in developing both education and research. You are expected to participate actively in applying for external research funding.
You are also expected to collaborate with the wider community for a mutual exchange, as well as work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society.
In order to contribute to a positive working environment and help further the subject’s activities, we expect you to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in economics, applicants are required have demonstrated teaching expertise. Applicants are also required to hold a Degree of Doctor or equivalent academic expertise in economics or equivalent field, alternatively other professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.
The position requires a good command of Swedish and English, since teaching is conducted in both languages.
Pursuant to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties included, as well as completed courses in higher education pedagogy. Candidates who have not completed training in higher education pedagogy may still be hired, provided that they use the time allotted to continual professional development to complete the required training within two years of employment, or that they apply for validation of prior learning. In the assessment, equal weight will be given to research expertise and teaching expertise.
Karlstad Business School values continuing professional development in terms of teaching expertise, such as recognised or distinguished teaching skills. An interest in and ability to integrate sustainable development, gender equality, equal terms and internationalisation in education are also considered valuable qualifications. We also value documented experience of teaching in English since the subject offers courses in English.
A permanent full-time position starting at the earliest convenience, as agreed upon by both parties. A probationary period may be required.
