Background

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science hereby invites applications for a permanent senior lectureship in Computer Science with a specialisation in operating systems, real-time systems, and Internet of Things.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science comprises two disciplines, Mathematics and Computer Science, and has more than 90 employees. The research and education in Computer Science is focused on data communication and distributed systems, cybersecurity and privacy, and software engineering. The Department works closely with international, national, and regional partners from academia as well as the private sector. Computer Science is developing a new Master’s (120 credits) programme in Networked Systems and Cybersecurity to reinforce its core areas and strengthen its international position in education and research.

As senior lecturer, you will be a part of and strengthen one of the established Computer Science research groups. Which one will depend on your expertise and interests.

  • DISCO (Distributed Systems and Communication), whose research includes internet protocol, wireless systems, edge/cloud services, and next-generation technology, such as programmable networks, SDN/NFV, and 5G.
  • PriSec (Privacy and Security), currently focusing on different aspects of cybersecurity such as network security, privacy-enhancing technology, data security and personal integrity.
  • SQuaD (Software Quality and Digital Modernisation), whose areas of study include software architecture degradation and other forms of technical debt, quality assurance techniques such as testing long-lived systems, and the design and evolution of security-critical and privacy-critical systems.

Research is primarily funded through external projects, such as international and national projects funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, the Knowledge Foundation, and the Swedish Internet Foundation. The new senior lecturer will play a vital role in the continued evolution of the Department’s education on operating systems, real-time systems, and Internet of Things. We are looking for a driven candidate with solid experience in research and teaching related to operating systems, real-time systems, and Internet of Things, or an adjacent field relevant to the position.

Duties

Duties include research, teaching, supervision and course administration. The applicant is expected to further the evolution of the Department’s research in operating systems, real-time systems, and Internet of Things by conducting high-quality research, expanding our international network, and contributing to an increase in research funds on a national and international level. The research is expected to reinforce one or more of the Department’s research groups. The applicant is also expected to teach bachelor’s and master’s study programmes and courses at the Department. Given that our new Master’s programme in Networked Systems and Cybersecurity is starting this autumn, there may be an opportunity to participate in designing the programme, depending on the applicant’s expertise.

Duties also include supervision of doctoral students, course administration and development, and supervision of bachelor's and master’s degree projects. The applicant that is ultimately offered the position is expected to be able to teach and supervise students in Swedish within a couple of years.

At least 50 % of the employment consists of conducting research. After that, there is the opportunity to keep the research component at 50 % or more, provided that external funds are granted and depending on the future direction of the Department and research group.

You are also excepted to collaborate with the wider community and strive towards a mutual exchange and to ensure that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society.

In order to contribute to a positive working environment and help further the subject’s activities, we expect you to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
