Background
The Faculty of Health, Science and Technology houses the Department of Engineering and Chemical Sciences, which comprises four subjects: building and construction engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering and environmental and energy systems. The department has a staff of around 50 and offers courses for students on four engineering programmes, teacher education, the preparatory year in science and technology as well as Drug Analysis, Bachelor Programme in Chemistry. The later programme prepares students for work in all chemical areas, while offering a unique profile in drug analysis, developed in close cooperation with the pharmaceutical industry, which makes students particularly skilled in chemical analysis. Unlike many chemistry programmes in Sweden, the Bachelor programme in Chemistry at Karlstad University attracts an increasing number of students and there is a documented positive correlation between education and research. Most courses in chemistry at Karlstad University are offered both as campus and distance education.

Duties
Duties mainly include teaching and developing chemistry courses for the Drug Analysis - Bachelor Programme in Chemistry, chemical engineering courses for the programme Master of chemical engineering, chemistry in teacher education and the preparatory year courses. Courses in chemistry at the basic level is given in Swedish, and courses at the advanced level can be given in English. A major part of duties primarily involves teaching organic and analytical chemistry and basic courses in Chemistry and related areas may also be required. Some duties are of an administrative nature.
The employment also includes strengthening the research that is currently being conducted in chemistry at Karlstad University and we also expect you to participate in the development of externally funded research projects. Collaboration with the surrounding community is a natural part of the work.
Qualification requirements
Eligible candidates for the position have a doctorate in chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry or other relevant area, or corresponding qualifications, as well as demonstrated teaching expertise and completed course in higher education pedagogy. This course may, under certain conditions, be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment.
Very good command of English in speech and writing is a requirement.

Weight is given to ability to teach chemistry in Swedish.. Weight is also given to applicants who have completed a post doc or research associate position, as well as to command of statistics, multivariate methods and experimental design.
