Background
Karlstad Business School, inaugurated in 2009, comprises the disciplines of Working Life Science, Business Administration, Information Systems, Law, Economics, Project Management, and Statistics. Courses and programs are offered at all higher education levels supported by strong research activities in the disciplines as well as in multidisciplinary research groups. There is a wide network of contacts, nationally and internationally, providing excellent opportunities for new research projects and contract projects.

Research and education in accounting and financial management play a central role in any business school. Students are greatly interested in these subjects as part of their Master of Science in Business and Economics. Karlstad Business School would like to develop research in this area further, and we are therefore looking for a qualified researcher with a background that enables him or her to take the lead in that development work.

Duties
Duties include teaching and development work at all higher education levels as well as research. The appointment comprises research to an extent which is dependent on available resources. Applicants are expected to take active part in bids for external research funding. We are looking for a capable researcher and educator who would like to contribute actively to the development of Karlstad Business School. Collaboration with other higher education institutions, both nationally and internationally, as well as interaction with society at large, and working for the dissemination of research results are also prioritised tasks.

Qualification requirements
To be qualified for employment as a professor, the applicant must have a doctor’s degree in business administration with a specialisation in accounting or financial management, and demonstrate sufficient research and teaching expertise in the discipline. It is a particular merit to have a broad background in both research and teaching and in both specialisations, accounting and financial management. Applicants must have good teaching and supervision skills at all higher education levels and experience in applying for external research funding and developing external networks. Considerable pedagogical competence is required, and a completed course in higher education pedagogy or equivalent knowledge acquired otherwise. If an applicant has not completed the higher education pedagogy course, he or she can still be hired on the condition that he or she pledges to complete it and it is scheduled as part of skills enhancement within two years of employment.

For more information on qualification requirements, see the Karlstad University appointments procedure and the Higher Education Ordinance Ch. 4, Sect. 3.

Assessment criteria
Teaching expertise is assessed on the basis of the ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate teaching and the ability to supervise and examine. Research expertise is assessed on the basis of publications on accounting or financial management.

A special emphasis is placed on the planning and managing of research. Expertise in and experience of teaching in Swedish are particularly important, and the ability to teach in English is a merit. Special weight is also given to ability to cooperate externally with national and international contacts in and out of academia, and success in attracting external funding.

Good administrative skills and leadership skills are also part of assessment. A particular emphasis is placed on personal traits such as teamwork skills, initiative, and commitment, as well as significant ability to interact with society at large and disseminate information about research and development work.

Karlstad University values the advantages offered by gender equality and diversity. We welcome applicants of any gender and with any background, ablebodiedness, and life experience.

Terms of employment
The appointment is for full-time, non-fixed term employment with a starting date as soon as possible, by agreement.

Application
Applicants are responsible for documenting and attaching qualifications in a way that allows for an objective and qualitative assessment. Please include at least two references. An incomplete application may jeopardise a fair assessment of qualifications.
