Description
The Department of Environmental and Life Sciences at the Faculty of Health, Science and Technology is advertising a position for a project assistant for research in Biology with a specialisation in evolutionary genetics and evolutionary medicine, with a special focus on sexually antagonistic patterns. A requirement for the appointment is that applicants bring their own funding.

Sexually antagonistic selection has been increasingly recognised as an important concept in evolutionary biology, since it seems to contribute to the diversification of characteristics between the sexes, and the maintenance of genetic variation. Sexually antagonistic selection might also explain the existence of certain human disease phenotypes related to sex.

Duties
The duties concern research. The primary task of the project assistant is to work with gene technological methods and conduct laboratory experiments with Darwinian fitness in the Drosophila model, in collaboration with research groups in Britain and Australia. The research appointment also includes design and implementation of systematic literature reviews and/or metaanalysis of published data.

Qualification requirements
To be eligible for the position, applicants are required to hold a PhD or have equivalent qualifications, and have solid knowledge of evolutionary genetics and evolutionary medicine.

Substantial research experience in the area of sexual antagonism and evolutionary genetics and particular competence in the use of the Drosophila melanogaster laboratory model are given particular weight, as well as documented experience of carrying out systematic literature reviews and/or metaanalyses. Considerable weight is placed on the verified ability to publish in high-quality scholarly journals and manage independent research projects, as well as skills in handling gene databases and modern statistical methods and computer programs (e.g. R).

Considerable weight is also placed on the applicant’s personal qualities, such as the ability to cooperate, sound judgement, responsibility, dedication, and a positive attitude towards colleagues and collaborating partners. A very high level of communicative proficiency in written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in Swedish is a valuable qualification.

Terms
The position is a fixed-term position at 85-100% of full time for 9 months, with a possible extension. The starting date for the position is 1 April 2020, or by agreement. A requirement for the appointment is that applicants bring their own comprehensive funding.

Application
Submit the application via the University’s web-based recruitment tool and include well documented qualifications. Applicants are responsible for submitting a complete application in accordance with the advertisement and for ensuring that the documentation allows for objective and qualitative assessments. A complete application should be submitted no later than the application deadline. An incomplete application may jeopardise a fair assessment of qualifications.

The application should include:
• Cover letter describing the applicant’s qualifications in relation to the duties of the position
• CV
• Copies of degree certificates, employer’s certificates, and letters of recommendation
• List of publications
• Contact information to at least two references (at least one of which must be in a supervisory position in relation to the applicant)

Application deadline: 17 March, 2020
State the ref. no: REK 2020/67.

We look forward to your application!
