Background
The Department of Engineering and Physics at Karlstad University has an extensive activity in the fields of mechanical and materials engineering, covering both research and teaching. The department offers courses for the faculty’s Master and Bachelor degree programs in mechanical engineering and the Bachelor program in innovation and design engineering. The department has a strong research activity in materials and mechanical engineering. The research in mechanical engineering is focused on applied mechanics, e.g. solid mechanics, FEM and fracture dynamics, as well as production engineering with focus on lean production. The research in materials engineering is focused on advanced steels, fatigue, tribology and additive manufacturing. A large part of the research is done in collaboration with industrial partners. The department also has significant teaching and research activities in materials physics. Scientists in materials physics and mechanical and materials engineering together form a large research group in materials science, that is prioritized by the faculty. Presently, the department has about 50 employees, including 9 professors, 10 associate professors, 3 senior lecturers, 7 doctoral students and 16 junior lecturers.

The department is now hiring a senior lecturer in applied mechanics.

Duties
The main duties involves teaching bachelor and master students, research in mechanical engineering and cooperation with industry and society. The teaching is primarily in mechanics, solid mechanics, machine dynamics, FEM and material mechanics. Teaching in other fields of mechanical engineering may be required.

Duties also include research based on the successful candidate’s research qualifications, preferably in collaboration with other researchers in the department. The research should aim to strengthen and develop the department’s research areas.

Duties also include administrative tasks and assignments within the university.
