Description
The Centre for Gender Studies (CGF) at Karlstad University is one of the most profiled national and international research environments in the field of men and masculinities. At CGF, this field has been a prominent research theme since the mid-1990s. In the 2010s, men and masculinity research at CGF has expanded within the GEXcel International Collegium in association with Tema Genus at Linköping University and the Centre for Feminist Social Studies at Örebro University.

The research theme is one of nine fields in GEXcel. The CGF houses the editorial board of Norma: International Journal for Masculinity Studies (Taylor & Francis), one of the leading international journals in the field.

Duties

Duties involve conducting research in the field of men and masculinities with a focus on one or several of the following, and partly overlapping themes:

* The gender segregated labour market

This theme has a long tradition at CGF in collaboration with Working Life Science at Karlstad University. The development potential is considerable, preferably with a focus on intersectional dividing lines where, for example, ethnicity and gender interact in new ways.

* Men and masculinities in academia, research and innovation

Research is scarce on inequality in academia, research and innovation with a focus on men and masculinities. Our ambition is to initiate new studies of masculinities, academia, research and innovation as well as to develop this research area in GEXcel.

* Technology and masculinity

Several CGF researchers have for an extended period of time investigated the strong and enduring connection between masculinity and technology. The combined research expertise at CGF welcomes and enables several developments in relation to contemporary feminist theorising.

 * Masculinity, risk and safety

We have seen that risk-taking emerges as a central dimension of masculinity construction. At CGF the relation between risk-taking and masculinity has been the object of study in several projects and the area deserves further attention.

* Transmasculinities

As the first gender studies environment in Sweden, CGF has established a profile of transgender and masculinities studies. We plan to further develop masculinity and trans studies in the interface of these two areas.

Besides being a part of the CGF and GEXcel environment, the successful candidate is expected to attend the workplace and contribute to the development of the CGF research environment as well as at the Faculty of Arts and Social Studies, and to teach courses in Gender Studies at undergraduate and doctoral levels.
