The discipline of Information Systems at Karlstad Business School offers a dynamic work environment characterised by curiosity and enthusiasm. We are now looking for a skilled teacher who wants to actively participate in developing Karlstad Business School, both in terms of education and research. You should strive to improve your own skills as well as our research and teaching environment, as you will be working alongside colleagues who are passionate about their subjects in both teaching and research.
Karlstad Business School was established in 2009 and comprises the disciplines of Working Life Science, Business Administration, Information Systems, Law, Economics, and Statistics. The school achieved AACSB accreditation in 2021. The mission of Karlstad Business School is “We educate responsible professionals and conduct research with high societal impact”, which permeates all activities of the school. Courses and study programmes at all levels are firmly rooted in research conducted by both individual disciplines and interdisciplinary research groups.
Research is conducted in several areas within Information Systems, and we participate in interdisciplinary collaborations within Karlstad Business School and with centres at both Karlstad University and other universities.

Duties include teaching, supervision and development work in courses and study programmes at all levels. As a senior lecturer, 20% of your working time is allocated to continual professional development, which may involve both research and teaching, subject to an annual agreement with your immediate supervisor.
You are expected to participate actively in applying for external research funding and to support the development of Karlstad Business School’s external collaborations. You are also expected to act as assistant supervisor for our doctoral students when needed. Administrative duties will also be required. Teaching activities in information systems are conducted in both Swedish and English. You may also be required to assist in teaching activities in other subjects.

To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in Information Systems, applicants are required to have demonstrated teaching expertise. In addition, applicants must hold a Degree of Doctor, or equivalent academic expertise, in Information Systems, or a related field, such as data science/analytics, applied AI, business intelligence and software engineering, including software testing and web development, or equivalent professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.
The position requires proficiency in Swedish and English. A candidate who does not meet this requirement may still be hired, provided they actively work to acquire these language skills.
Pursuant to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties included, as well as completed training in higher education pedagogy. In special circumstances, candidates who have not completed courses in higher education pedagogy may still be hired provided that they do so within two years of employment or that they apply for validation of prior learning.

In the assessment, special and equal weight will be given to teaching expertise and research expertise.
Research expertise will be assessed on the basis of innovation and independence, among other things, and priority will be given according to the range and depth of the research production, as well as how current it is. The scope of the research production is also considered. Special weight will be given to high potential regarding future academic activities, based on quality rather than quantity, within information systems and adjacent subjects.
Weight will be given to documented experience and ability in leading and communicating development work with commissioning organisations, colleagues and students in relation to teaching and assessment.
Weight will also be given to broad experience in, and good understanding of, systems development and/or business development.
The following are considered valuable qualifications: educational qualifications, broad experience of working with development and production of mobile internet services and cloud services; knowledge and practical experience of administering server environments; knowledge of software development, project management methodologies and database management from back-end to front-end.
Personal qualities such as the ability to show initiative and dedication are important, as well as administrative skills. We also value a humble approach.
This is a permanent full-time position (100%) starting at the earliest convenience. A probationary period may be required.
