Description

The discipline of Information Systems at Karlstad Business School offers a dynamic work environment characterised by curiosity and enthusiasm. We are now looking for a skilled teacher who wants to actively participate in developing Karlstad Business School, both in terms of education and research. You should strive to improve your own skills as well as our research and teaching environment, as you will be working alongside colleagues who are passionate about their subjects in both teaching and research.

Karlstad Business School was established in 2009 and comprises the disciplines of Working Life Science, Business Administration, Information Systems, Law, Economics, and Statistics. The school achieved AACSB accreditation in 2021. The mission of Karlstad Business School is “We educate responsible professionals and conduct research with high societal impact”, which permeates all activities of the school. Courses and study programmes at all levels are firmly rooted in research conducted by both individual disciplines and interdisciplinary research groups.

Research is conducted in several areas within Information Systems, and we participate in interdisciplinary collaborations within Karlstad Business School and with centres at both Karlstad University and other universities.

Courses and study programmes in Information Systems, on all levels, are conducted with a strong basis in research from both the discipline as well as interdisciplinary research groups. More information can be found at: kau.se/en/information-systems.

Duties

Duties include teaching, supervision and development work in courses and study programmes at all levels. As a senior lecturer, 20% of your working time is allocated to continual professional development, which may involve both research and teaching, subject to an annual agreement with your immediate supervisor.

You are expected to participate actively in applying for external research funding and to support the development of Karlstad Business School’s external collaborations. You are also expected to act as assistant supervisor for our doctoral students when needed. Administrative duties will also be required. Teaching activities in information systems are conducted in both Swedish and English. You may also be required to assist in teaching activities in other subjects.

The position may include teaching primarily in the following areas:

  • Data analysis methods (including ML/AI)
  • Analysis tools (we are currently using Tableau but this may change)
  • Business development through data analysis
  • Database management using primarily SQL but also NoSQL
  • Programming in common programming languages (with emphasis on Python)
  • Supervision in the management of commercial enterprise systems
  • Applied AI, including prototyping through generative AI and Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
  • System architecture, digital service development, business development and business processes

In addition, the following duties may be included:

  • Development and teaching of new courses, together with revision of existing courses
  • Duties as programme director

You are expected to collaborate with the wider community for a mutual exchange, as well as work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society.

In order to contribute to a positive working environment and help further the subject’s activities, we expect you to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.

Qualification requirements

In addition, applicants must hold a Degree of Doctor, or equivalent academic expertise, in Information Systems, or a related field, such as data science/analytics, applied AI, business intelligence and software engineering, including software testing and web development, or equivalent professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.

For other eligibility requirements, refer to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure.

Assessment criteria

In the assessment, special and equal weight will be given to teaching expertise and research expertise.

Research expertise will be assessed on the basis of innovation and independence, among other things, and priority will be given according to the range and depth of the research production, as well as how current it is. The scope of the research production is also considered. Special weight will be given to high potential regarding future academic activities, based on quality rather than quantity, within information systems and adjacent subjects.

Weight will be given to documented experience and ability in leading and communicating development work with commissioning organisations, colleagues and students in relation to teaching and assessment.

Weight will also be given to broad experience in, and good understanding of, systems development and/or business development.

The following are considered valuable qualifications: educational qualifications, broad experience of working with development and production of mobile internet services and cloud services; knowledge and practical experience of administering server environments; knowledge of software development, project management methodologies and database management from back-end to front-end.

Personal qualities such as the ability to show initiative and dedication are important, as well as administrative skills. We also value a humble approach.
