Karlstad Business School was inaugurated in 2009 and comprises the disciplines of Working Life Science, Business Administration, Information Systems, Law, Economics, and Statistics. The school is AACSB-accredited. The mission of Karlstad Business School is “We educate responsible professionals and conduct research with high societal impact”, which permeates all activities of the school. Courses and study programmes at all levels are firmly rooted in research conducted by both individual disciplines and interdisciplinary research groups.
Statistics offer degree programmes and freestanding courses, both on campus and via distance education. Examples of degree programmes offering courses in statistics include the Programme in Business and Economics, the Study Programme in IT-Design: Enterprise Systems and Economy, Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management, and various master’s programmes. Research in statistics at Karlstad University is primarily conducted in relation to different research projects, often in collaboration with researchers from other disciplines from across the university. We are now looking for a committed colleague who actively wants to contribute to the continued development of Karlstad Business School.
Duties comprise both on-campus and distance teaching, as well as supervising independent projects at undergraduate and master’s level. Teaching will, among other things, include courses that are part of the Master Programme in Applied Economics and Advanced Analytical Methods. We are looking for a skilled teacher who wants to actively participate in developing both education and research. As senior lecturer, you will contribute to the development of our research environment, take responsibility for individual and joint applications for external research funding, and participate in research activities both within the subject and in collaboration with other disciplines at Karlstad Business School as well as external partners and networks. You are expected to collaborate with the wider community for a mutual exchange, as well as work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society and makes a difference. To contribute to a positive work environment and further the department’s activities, we expect you to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in statistics, applicants are required have demonstrated teaching expertise. Applicants are also required to hold a PhD or equivalent academic qualifications in statistics, mathematical statistics [MOU2] or other subject area relevant to the position, alternatively, other professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.
The position requires a good command of Swedish and English, since instruction is in both Swedish and English.
Pursuant to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties included, as well as completed training in higher education pedagogy.
Candidates who have not completed courses in higher education pedagogy may still be hired, provided that they use the time allotted to continual professional development to complete the required courses within two years of employment, or that they apply for validation of prior learning. In the assessment, equal weight will be given to research expertise and teaching expertise.
Karlstad Business School values continuing professional development in terms of teaching expertise, such as recognised or distinguished teaching skills. An interest in and ability to integrate sustainable development, gender equality, equal terms and internationalisation in education are also considered valuable qualifications. We also value documented experience of teaching in English since the subject offers courses in English.
This is a permanent full-time position starting at the earliest convenience, as agreed upon by both parties. A probationary period may be required.
