The Faculty of Health, Natural and Technical Sciences announces a position as Senior Lecturer in mechanical engineering. The position is located at the Department of Engineering and Physics, within the subject of mechanical and materials engineering, which is one of the department's three subjects. The department has approximately 60 employees, of which 11 are professors. We offer, among other things, PhD programs in industrial engineering and management, materials engineering and physics, master's degree programs in industrial engineering and management, mechanical engineering, and engineering physics, as well as bachelor programs in mechanical engineering, innovation and design engineering, and electrical engineering.
The current employment will be linked to the postgraduate education subject of industrial engineering and management. The research there is today established in the areas of innovation management and service research. The research and PhD education with a focus on operations and supply chain management, including production systems and logistics, is under construction with the support of the Vice-Chancellor and faculty. The advertised position is part of this build-up, where you will have an important role by influencing and contributing to its design and development. Industrial engineering and management is an interdisciplinary research and education area, and a strong collaboration has been established for many years with the Service Research Center (CTF) and Karlstad Business School.
The position includes two main areas, research and teaching. The research takes place on the basis of one's own scientific competence, in collaboration with the department's other researchers, and shall strengthen and develop the department's research in industrial engineering and management. The applicant is expected to actively develop, lead and participate in research projects in the field of industrial engineering and management, which includes the search for external research funds and research administration. The research area also includes supervision of doctoral students in the PhD subject industrial engineering and management. The applicant is also expected to participate in national and international collaborations both in terms of generating research data and disseminating it.
Within teaching, the applicant is expected to develop, lead and examine courses in industrial engineering and management and mechanical engineering at basic level and advanced level. Mainly within production systems, logistics and supply chain management. Teaching in other areas linked to Industrial engineering and management, the master's program in Innovation and Service Development, as well as in mechanical engineering, such as production and project courses, as well as degree projects, may be required.
As senior lecturer, you are also expected to collaborate with the wider community for a mutual exchange of ideas, as well as work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society. In order to contribute to a positive working environment and help further the subject’s activities, it is important that you are present at the workplace and participate in the daily activities at the department.
To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in mechanical engineering, applicants are required to hold a Degree of Doctor or equivalent academic qualifications in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and management, or a closely related field. Applicants are also required to have demonstrated teaching expertise.
Excellent command of written and spoken English is also a requirement. As a lecturer at Karlstad University, you should be able to teach in both English and Swedish. An applicant who does not meet the requirement of proficiency in Swedish may still be hired provided they are able to actively acquire the language skills.
Pursuant to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties included, as well as completed training in higher education pedagogy. Candidates who have not completed courses in higher education pedagogy may still be hired, provided that they use the time allotted to continual professional development to complete the required courses within two years of employment, or that they apply for validation of prior learning.
