We are looking for a project assistant for laboratory work in the genetics and ecology of insects. We offer a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a research environment as well as experience with a widely used model organism (Drosophila melanogaster), as well as the potential for field work with wild insects (Odonates) and being part of an expanding evolutionary ecology research group at Karlstad University. The main duties consist of: 1) routine maintenance of laboratory populations of fruit flies, such as preparing food and transferring flies to new containers according to a set schedule 2) assist in preparing and completing experiments and recording data, including long-term experimental evolution studies, and 3) assist in local field surveys of wild populations of Odonates (damselflies and dragonflies). Work will mainly take place in the laboratory at Karlstad University, but during the spring and summer there is an opportunity for local fieldwork, with a focus on studies of wild insect populations.
