Karlstad University / Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences / Department of Artistic Studies

Description

Ingesund School of Music (Musikhögskolan Ingesund, MHI) is part of the Department of Artistic Studies at Karlstad University and constitutes the University’s second campus, located in Arvika. MHI offers a music teacher programme that qualifies graduates to teach music in upper-secondary school, as well as years 1–9. It also provides the necessary skills to teach at music and arts schools. MHI is a renowned university college with healthy student recruitment and a stimulating work environment that promotes cooperation between staff and students. We now look forward to recruiting a senior lecturer in music education with a specialisation in music didactics to boost our teacher team. Perhaps you are the one we are looking for?

Music education as a scientific subject area forms an important basis for the study programmes offered at MHI. Ingesund is in the midst of a process of establishing a research centre for music education research, where the close integration between the school’s artistic and academic staff provides a dynamic and inspiring work environment.

The music teacher programme is the largest and oldest programme at Ingesund. It is deeply rooted in tradition as well as taking an innovative approach, offering the students time and opportunity to develop all-round qualifications and skills. In-depth subject study as well as practical experience provide a solid foundation to qualify as a music teacher in lower- or upper-secondary school. MHI also offers a music production programme (since 2018) as well as a Bachelor’s programme in music (since 2016). As of the autumn 2023, there is also a Master’s programme in music. MHI is, in other words, in the midst of a strong growth period. A quality review of the music teacher programme conducted by the Swedish Higher Education Authority in 2020, concluded that the programme shows high standard, emphasising the close connection between research and education and between artistic and educational components.
