Description 

Sociology offers courses and study programmes at undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral level. This includes the Bachelor’s Programme in Social Analysis and the Master’s (120 credits) Programme in Critical Social Analysis. We have approximately 230 full-time students annually. The unit comprises a staff of 20 working with research, education and external contacts. The unit is part of several national and international partnerships in education and research.

Research is focused on the following areas: Personal Life, Emotions and Everyday Social Interaction; Critical Studies of Age and Ageing; and Sociology of Knowledge and Resistance.

Sociology is part of a multidisciplinary department that also includes Social Work, Psychology, and Gender Studies.

Duties

The main duties consist of teaching sociology and social psychology at the A-D level, both courses outside study programmes and as part of our Bachelor´s programmes. Other duties such as supervision, assessment, course coordination and course development are required as part of the position, as is the active participation in developing the discipline unit, department and faculty with regard to teaching, research and community collaboration. You are expected to play an active role in the unit´s research, conduct your own research and help secure external funds for the unit. Duties at undergraduate level should make up no less than 20% of the position. Supervision and teaching at doctoral level may be required. Duties may also include teaching in other study programmes, such as Bachelor of Science in Social Work, Master of Science in Psychology, and the teacher education programmes.

Qualification requirements

To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer, applicants must hold a PhD in Sociology (or equivalent), have demonstrated teaching expertise and completed courses in higher education pedagogy or equivalent. An applicant who has not completed training for teaching in higher education may still be hired if they commit to completing these courses within two years of employment, using the time earmarked for professional development. Further, the applicant is required to have good command of spoken and written Swedish and English.

Assessment criteria

Special weight will be given to research and teaching expertise in sociology. Equal weight will be given to research and teaching expertise in the assessment of candidates.

Considerable weight will also be given to the applicant’s social skills, such as the ability to cooperate, build good relations with colleagues, take initiative and show commitment to the work of others.

Weight will be given to good administrative skills and experience of disseminating research findings and development efforts, as well as experience of community collaboration.

Research experience of both qualitative and quantitative research methods is considered a valuable qualification. We also value research in one of the discipline’s three existing research areas.

Terms 

This is a permanent full-time position starting at the earliest convenience, as agreed upon by both parties. To best facilitate good cooperation and a positive working environment, we would like you to be physically present at the department as much as possible. A probationary period may be required.
