The Department of Language, Literature and Intercultural Studies (ISLI) at Karlstad University consists of six sections: English, Spanish, Swedish Language, Swedish as a Second Language, Comparative Literature, and Intercultural Studies. The subject of Spanish offers preparatory, first-cycle, and second-cycle courses. The range of courses offered comprises courses included in the University’s the teacher education programmes, freestanding courses, and courses for beginners. Research in Spanish at Karlstad University is specialised in both Spanish literature and linguistics. The department includes the Research Group for Culture Studies (KuFo) and the Centre for Language and Literature in Education (CSL) which is connected to the research group ROSE (Research on Subject-Specific Education). Duties are mainly focused on teaching within the subject of Spanish. This includes teaching courses in subject-specific education and language proficiency, supervising degree projects, and being in charge of placements included in the secondary education programmes. Duties also include course coordination. As senior lecturer, you are expected to actively participate in the subject’s development work and collaboration with the surrounding community, especially within the school sector. Teaching includes both on-campus and distance learning courses.
In order to contribute to a positive work environment and further the activities of the department and the subject, you are expected to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
You are also expected to participate in the subject’s research activities by applying for external research funding, individually or as part of a group, and by managing your own research projects. 20% of the senior lectureship is earmarked for research or other continual professional development.
To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in Spanish, applicants are required to hold a PhD in Spanish with a specialisation in linguistics, as well as having demonstrated teaching expertise.
Pursuant to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties involved, as well as a completed course in higher education pedagogy. In special circumstances, the course in higher education pedagogy may be completed within two years of employment.
Equal weight will be given to research expertise and teaching expertise.
Research expertise will be assessed on the basis of innovation and independence, and priority will be given according to the range and depth of the research production, as well as how current it is. The scope of the research production is also considered.

This is a permanent full-time position (100%) starting 1 July 2023 or according to agreement.
A probationary period may be required.
