The Faculty of Health, Science and Technology is accepting applications for a senior lectureship in Mathematics Education at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
Department of Mathematics and Computer Science houses two doctoral education subject areas, Mathematics and Computer Science. Mathematics Education is a specialisation within the subject area Mathematics. Currently, six senior lecturers—of which two are appointed associate professors—five lecturers, three doctoral students, one licentiate student, as well as additional researchers and teachers are affiliated with this specialisation. The Mathematics Education research environment is part of the research centre SMEER (Science, Mathematics and Engineering Education Research), which currently houses approximately fifteen seniors researchers and twelve PhD students. The research in mathematics education at the department is primarily focused on learning and teaching with digital tools, professional development for teachers, and preschool mathematics education. The research is in large part conducted in interdisciplinary groups at the university, as well as through well-established collaborations with other higher education institutions, both nationally and internationally. Bachelor level education in the subject is primarily conducted in primary and secondary education programmes, as well as courses in the preschool education programme. Duties comprise teaching, course development, course coordination, research and supervision of degree projects in mathematics education in preschool, primary and secondary education programmes. Continuing professional development and research are regulated in a local agreement.

To contribute to a positive work environment and further the department’s activities, you are expected to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in Mathematics Education, applicants are required to have demonstrated teaching expertise and hold a PhD in Mathematics Education, or equivalent academic qualifications or professional expertise deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.
Since Swedish is the language of instruction in the majority of the courses, proficiency in spoken and written Swedish is required.
Pursuant to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the required duties, as well as a completed course in higher education pedagogy.
Candidates who have not completed a course in higher education pedagogy may still be hired, provided that they use the time allotted to continual professional development to complete the required course within two years of employment, or that they apply for validation of prior learning.
