Description

We are looking for a professor of Clinical Psychology, specialising in neurocognition, health psychology or developmental psychology, to be a part of the discipline of Psychology at Karlstad University.

Clinical psychology refers to both the professional practice of preventing curing and relieve human suffering and psychological aspects of illness, and to the systematic study of origin, development, diagnostic, assessment, treatment and prevention of clinical psychological conditions.

The subject of Psychology has more than 30 employees and is part of the Department of Social and Psychological Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The department also houses Gender Studies, Social Work, and Sociology. The subject offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes in psychology. In October 2014, the subject was granted the rights to issue the Degree of Master of Science in Psychology, and the Master of Science in Psychology Programme was launched in autumn 2015. In addition to the programme, the university offers several freestanding bachelor’s and master’s courses in psychology. Karlstad University has provided a doctoral programme in psychology since 2006.

Duties

Duties comprises research, teaching and supervision, as well as contributing to the development of the department’s research in the field of clinical psychology. A professor is expected to participate in the efforts aimed at acquiring solid funding and resources for the clinical research conducted at the department. Duties also comprises development of courses and degree programmes, as well as teaching and supervision at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels.

Qualification requirements

To be eligible for the position of professor of Psychology, applicants are required to hold a PhD or equivalent in Psychology and have documented scientific and pedagogical proficiency. The position requires a good command of Swedish and English. An applicant without the necessary proficiency in Swedish is expected to actively work to acquire the required language skills. Pursuant to the Karlstad University Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties involved. A professor must also have completed a course in higher education pedagogy. An applicant without these qualifications may be appointed on the condition that he or she commits to completing the course within two years of employment.

Assessment criteria

Special weight is given to leadership and research expertise in the field of clinical psychology.

Special weight will also be given to recognised collaboration skills, outstanding academic leadership qualities and the ability to contribute significantly to a good research environment.

Considerable weight is given to teaching expertise, as well as the ability to communicate research and development efforts.

Being a licensed psychotherapist and having a network of contacts within the field is a valuable qualification.

In the assessment of research expertise, recent and documented ability to secure research funding is a valuable qualification, as is experience from international assignments or national and international networks. Another valuable qualification is prior administrative experience of being head of research.

Terms

This is a permanent full-time position (100%) starting at the earliest agreed upon convenience. The position is placed at the Department of Social and Psychological Studies.

  • two references, at least one of which is a current or former supervisor.
