Description

Karlstad Business School, inaugurated in 2009, comprises the disciplines of Working Life Science, Business Administration, Information Systems, Economics, and Statistics. Since 2017, we offer a complete law degree (270 ECTS credits) featuring specialisations in tax law, business law, practical process, and human law. Graduates receive general qualification for service as law clerks. The discipline also offers a range of courses aimed at students enrolled in other study programmes. Third-cycle Law studies specialise in jurisprudence, civil law, finance law, international law, environmental law, public law, practical process, and criminal law. The discipline of Law currently has a staff of around 25 people, and we need to expand! We are now looking for a senior lecturer in Procedural Law.

Duties

The senior lectureship in Procedural Law primarily comprises teaching both Swedish civil law and procedural law. Instruction in adjacent legal areas may be required. Duties comprises planning, execution, and evaluation of teaching courses on both bachelor and master (specialisation tracks) levels, as well as supervision of essays and degree projects.

We are looking for a senior lecturer who is a skilled teacher and who actively wants to participate in the development of the new bachelor and master programmes, as well as the doctoral programme.  The position requires active participation in applications for external funds and in the development of the discipline’s external contacts. 20% of the working hours are earmarked for continuing professional development.

Qualification requirements

To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer, applicants are required have demonstrated teaching expertise. Beyond that, a Degree of Doctor of Laws specialised in procedural law or, or equivalent academic expertise in procedural law, or equivalent professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.

Applicants must have documented skill in first-cycle and second-cycle instruction and supervision (or equivalent) and have research experience in the field of procedural law.

Pursuant to the Karlstad University Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties involved, as well as a completed course in higher education pedagogy.

In special circumstances, candidates who have not completed a course in higher education pedagogy may still be hired provided that they do so within two years of employment or that they apply for validation of prior learning.

Assessment criteria

In the appointment, equal weight will be given to scientific and pedagogical skills.

In the assessment of scientific skill, special weight will be given to research tied to the field of procedural law and documented skills that can further the development of the discipline’s research.

In the assessment of pedagogical skill, special weight will be given to the ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate instruction on different levels, as well as supervision and examination ability. The assessment is also based on administrative qualifications. The language of instruction is Swedish, and special weight will therefore be given to a good command of Swedish.

Considerable weight will be given to the ability to create national and international contacts inside and outside academia, and to attract external funds. Considerable weight will also be placed on personal qualities such as the ability to cooperate, initiative, and dedication.

Experience of supervising doctoral students is a valuable qualification. Applicants should have strong leadership qualities and excellent teamwork abilities to successfully contribute to the operational development.

Terms

This is a permanent full-time position (100%) starting at the earliest convenience. A probationary period may be required.
