Karlstad Business School and the discipline of Information Systems at Karlstad University is a dynamic work environment characterised by curiosity and a high job satisfaction. We are now looking for two skilled teachers who want to actively participate in developing Karlstad Business School, both in terms of education and research. You should strive to improve yourselves as well as our research and teaching environment, because your colleagues are passionate about their subjects, both in terms of research and teaching.
Research is conducted in several areas within Information Systems, and we participate in interdisciplinary collaborations with centres at both Karlstad University and other universities.
Courses and study programmes in Information Systems, on all levels, are conducted with a strong basis in research from both the discipline as well as interdisciplinary research groups. We have three bachelor's programmes, one master’s programme and the doctoral programme in Information Systems. More information about our programmes can be found at our web page: kau.se/en/information-systems.
Duties include teaching, supervision and development work in courses and programmes at all levels. 20 % of the working hours are earmarked for continuing professional development.
You are expected to participate actively in applying for external research funding. You should also contribute in expanding Karlstad Business School’s external contacts. You are also expected to act as assistant supervisor for doctoral students. Administrative assignments may also be required. Teaching activities in Information Systems are conducted in both Swedish and English. You may also be required to assist in teaching activities in other subjects.
When it comes to teaching, we are mainly recruiting for the following areas:
To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in Information Systems, applicants are required to have demonstrated teaching expertise. Beyond that, a Degree of Doctor, or equivalent academic expertise in Information Systems, or a related field, such as data science/analytics, applied AI, business intelligence and software engineering, including software testing and web development, or equivalent professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.
The position requires a good command of Swedish and English. A candidate who does not meet this requirement may still be hired provided they are able to actively acquire the necessary language proficiency.
Pursuant to the Karlstad University Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties involved, as well as a completed course in higher education pedagogy. In special circumstances, candidates who have not completed a course in higher education pedagogy may still be hired provided that they do so within two years of employment or that they apply for validation of prior learning.
For other eligibility requirements, refer to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure.
In the assessment, special and equal weight will be given to pedagogical skills and scientific skills.
Research expertise will be assessed on the basis of innovation and independence, among other things, and priority will be given according to the range and depth of the research production, as well as how current it is. The scope of the research production is also considered. Special weight is given to a good prognosis regarding future academic activities, based on quality rather than quantity, within Information Systems and related fields such as database optimisation, data science/analytics, applied AI, business intelligence and software engineering. Special weight is also given to the ability to cooperate in international research groups, apply for external research funding and promote contacts with the surrounding society.
Special weight is given to a demonstrated ability to, with a basis in student-oriented teaching, assess how learning and learning progression in different groups of students affects teaching and examinations. Furthermore, weight will be given to documented experience and ability in leading development processes for teaching and examinations in your subject or discipline and communicating these efforts to colleagues and students. Weight will also be given to experience of a learning platform and video conference system, as well as experience in remote cooperation by means of digital tools. Recognised or distinguished teaching skills is a valuable qualification.
Weight is given to broad experience in, and good understanding of, systems development.
It is considered a valuable qualification to have broad experience in, and good understanding of, business development.
The following are considered valuable qualifications: broad experience of working with development and production of web, mobile internet services and cloud services; knowledge and practical experience of administrating server environments; knowledge of software development and database management from back-end to front-end.
It is also a valuable qualification to have knowledge of technologies and methods of data gathering and analysis of data from digital media (for example web scraping).
Personal qualities such as initiative and dedication are important, as well as administrative skills. Another valued personal quality is a humble approach.
This is a permanent full-time position (100%) starting at the earliest convenience. A probationary period may be required.
