Description

The Faculty of Health, Science and Technology is advertising a position as associate senior lecturer in Building and Construction Engineering at the Department of Engineering and Chemical Sciences. The department conducts extensive research and provides education within the fields of building and construction engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering and environmental engineering. The department currently has approximately 60 employees.

Building and Construction Engineering has grown significantly in recent years, both in terms of research and the number of students. A large portion of the research at the subject is focused on how wood materials can be utilised in modern, advanced structures. The research lab is under construction and contains, among other things, advanced tools for measuring strain using camera technology and other gear for dynamic characterisation of materials. The group also utilises the finite element method to simulate the effects of stress on a material.

The position as associate senior lecturer primarily aims to attract ambitious and qualified researchers who are at the beginning of their career and looking to gain valuable qualifications in the field.

Duties

Main duties comprises research in building and structural engineering, focusing on characterisation and simulation of wood materials exposed to mechanical stress (short- or long term) and/or moisture induced stress in various applications and structures. You will contribute to the ongoing research projects by developing the existing research conducted at the department, as well as reinforcing the department’s international network. Your work should be characterised by inquisitiveness, an independent approach, the will to further develop the subject and high quality in general. During the employment, you are expected to apply for external research funding. At least 75% of the working hours are reserved for research.

Duties at the subject also include teaching courses in degree programmes, as well as designing master’s courses. You will mainly teach building and structural engineering in lecture halls and/or in a laboratory environment. Duties may include administrative tasks and other assignments within the university. You are also expected to contribute to the ongoing development of a new master’s programme at the subject. For an associate senior lecturer, teaching duties can amount to a maximum of 25% of your working hours.

You are expected to collaborate with the wider community for a mutual exchange, as well as work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society.

In order to contribute to a positive working environment and help further the subject’s activities, we expect you to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
