Are you interested in developing research in the field of educational work?

The Department of Educational Studies currently has a staff of around 120 employees, about half of whom have a PhD. The department consists of three subjects: Educational Work, Special Education, and Sports Science. Education at the department is mainly focused on the teacher education programmes.

The department has a vibrant and cross-disciplinary research environment with several specialisations in the field of education. This is coupled with one of Karlstad University’s largest doctoral programmes, with around 40 doctoral students and multifaceted seminar activities and 8 professors, allowing us to offer a stimulating working environment for you and your research.

We are now looking for an associate senior lecturer in educational work to join our team. The research specialisation of the position primarily refers to teaching and learning conditions for children/pupils in pre-school and up to school year six. You will be employed in the subject of educational work but since there is close collaboration between the subjects of the department, you will also have the opportunity to participate in various research environments at the department, such as one of the externally funded research projects or one of the research groups in sports science or special education. As associate senior lecturer, you can also participate in our research group with focus on school-age educare. We value candidates whose research can contribute to a stronger research basis in the teacher education programmes at Karlstad University.

Duties

The main duties as associate senior lecturer will consist of research, 75% of working hours.  Research will be conducted independently, together with other researchers at the department or research colleagues from other higher education institutions. The aim is to give you the opportunity to develop your independence as a researcher and gain valuable qualifications in terms of both research and teaching expertise.

The remaining 25% of working hours will include participating in the other activities of the department. These activities mainly refer to teaching, but it can also be other duties depending on your qualifications and the needs of the department. Education at the department is mainly focused on the teacher education programmes, which can include, for example, lectures, supervision and assessment of students.

You are also expected to collaborate with the surrounding community to create mutual exchange and work to ensure that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is put to good use in society.

In order to contribute to a positive working environment and help further the subject’s activities, we expect that you, to a great extent, are a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
