Do you want to be part of the long-term development of the subject of Geomatics by strengthening the subject’s teaching and research activities? We are offering an opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary research environment where you can further your own skills and future working environment.

Description

Geomatics is one of the subjects of the Department of Environmental and Life Sciences at the Faculty of Health, Science and Technology. Geomatics offers courses and study programmes at first-cycle level, for example, the 3-year study programmes Programme in Surveying and Mapping, and Engineering: Surveying Technology and Geographical IT (also offered as distance programmes). Geomatics currently has a staff of six people, active in education and research. The subject integrates knowledge and research approaches from different disciplines such as information technology, computer science, geodesy, risk and environmental studies, biology, and spatial and social planning.

Current research interests include risk management and modelling, climate adaptation, natural hazards, social vulnerability, sustainable development, resilient cities, geodesy, landscape ecology and environmental monitoring. Research is connected to Risk and Environmental Studies and Biology, as well as the Centre for Societal Risk Research and the Centre for Research on Sustainable Societal Transformation.

The discipline of Geomatics at Karlstad University is planning to offer more advanced and wider-ranging education by creating a second-cycle study programme (MSc). The long-term aim is to offer courses and programmes at third-cycle level (PhD), focusing on the development of methods and geospatial solutions that can help battle social challenges related to, for example, sustainable development, environmental monitoring, climate change and climate adaptation. You can find more information on Geomatics at Karlstad University and the courses and study programmes offered here.
