We are currently looking for a senior lecturer in psychology to join our team in the discipline of psychology at Karlstad University. The subject of psychology has a staff of over 30 members and belongs to the Department of Social and Psychological Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The department also houses the subjects Gender Studies, Social Work, and Sociology.
The subject of psychology offers first-cycle, second-cycle, and third-cycle education. In October, 2014, the subject was granted the rights to issue the Degree of Master of Science in Psychology, and the Master of Science in Psychology Programme was launched in the autumn of 2015. In addition to the programme, the subject also offers several freestanding first- and second-cycle courses. Third-cycle education in psychology has been offered at Karlstad University since the beginning of 2006.
The subject of psychology is also connected to two multidisciplinary research environments:
Work mainly consists of teaching and supervising students in the Master of Science in Psychology Programme, but may also include teaching freestanding courses, contract education and doctoral courses. Organisational psychology, theory of science and method, developmental psychology, personality psychology, and clinical psychology are examples of course subjects. Classes may be taught in both Swedish and English. Duties such as teaching, supervision, assessment, course coordination and course development are required as part of the position, as is the active participation in developing the subject and department with regard to teaching, research, and collaboration with the larger community.
To be eligible for the position, applicants are required to hold a PhD in psychology or equivalent academic qualifications. Further, the applicant is required to have good command of spoken and written Swedish and English. Finally, applicants must have documented teaching expertise as well as a completed course in higher education pedagogy. An applicant who has not completed a course in higher education pedagogy may still be hired if they commit to doing so within two years of employment using the time earmarked for professional development. For other eligibility requirements, refer to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure and the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4 Section 4.
Equal weight will be given to research and teaching expertise. Considerable weight will be given to the applicant’s documented ability to cooperate.
Teaching expertise will be assessed based on the ability to plan, conduct and evaluate teaching as well as the ability to supervise and assess students.
Research expertise will be assessed based on research quality and the scope of the research in terms of depth and range. We value applicants who have experience of applying for and securing external research funding.
Psychology licence is also a valuable qualification, as well as previous experience of teaching courses in a psychology programme.
This is a permanent full-time position (100%) starting at the earliest convenience. The position is placed at the Department of Social and Psychological Studies. A probationary period may be required.
