The subject of Psychology at Karlstad University is looking for a senior lecturer in clinical psychology, specialising in evidence-based psychotherapy. By evidence-based psychotherapy, we mainly refer to cognitive behavioural therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy. The subject of Psychology has a staff of over 30 members and belongs to the Department of Social and Psychological Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The department also houses Gender Studies, Social Work, and Sociology.
The subject of Psychology offers first-cycle, second-cycle, and third-cycle education. In October, 2014, the subject was granted the rights to issue the Degree of Master of Science in Psychology, and the Master of Science in Psychology Programme was launched in the autumn of 2015. In addition to the programme, the subject also offers several freestanding courses at first- and second-cycle level. Doctoral courses in psychology has been offered at Karlstad University since the beginning of 2006.
The subject of Psychology is also connected to two multidisciplinary research environments:
Main duties involve clinical psychology with focus on evidence-based psychotherapy, but other areas of psychology also constitute an important basis for the position, for example, developmental psychology, personality psychology and psychological assessment methodology. Work mainly consists of teaching and supervising students in the Master of Science in Psychology Programme, but may also include teaching freestanding courses, contract education and doctoral courses. Classes may be taught in Swedish or English. Duties such as teaching, supervision, assessment, course coordination and course development are required as part of the position, as is the active participation in developing the discipline and department with regard to teaching, research and community collaboration.
To be eligible for the position, applicants are required to hold a PhD in Psychology or equivalent scientific qualifications. The applicant is also required to be a licenced psychologist or licenced psychotherapist, as well as having psychotherapeutic competence in cognitive behavioural therapy and/or psychodynamic therapy. Further, the applicant is required to have good command of spoken and written Swedish and English that can be applied in communication and teaching. Finally, applicants must have documented teaching expertise as well as a completed course in higher education pedagogy. An applicant who has not completed a course in higher education pedagogy may still be hired if they commit to doing so within two years of employment using the time earmarked for professional development. For other eligibility requirements, refer to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure and the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4 Section 4.
Special weight will be placed on the applicant’s clinical work as a psychologist or psychotherapist specialised in evidence-based treatment, primarily cognitive behavioural therapy and/or psychodynamic therapy.
Documented ability to cooperate with others, especially collaborations with the larger community, is of considerable weight.
Completed supervisor course in psychotherapy is also of value, as are specialist qualifications with focus on treatment, as well as previous experience of teaching courses in a psychology programme. Teaching expertise will be assessed based on the ability to plan, conduct and evaluate teaching as well as the ability to supervise and assess students.
Research expertise will be assessed based on research quality and the scope of research in terms of depth and range. We value experience of project management and research group management. The ability to successfully obtain external research funding is also of weight.
Equal weight will be given to research and teaching expertise.
This is a permanent full-time position (100%) starting at the earliest convenience. The position is placed at the Department of Social and Psychological Studies. A probationary period may be required.
