Description

The Faculty of Health Science and Technology has an opening for a full-time post-doctoral research fellow with focus on non-technical debt in large-scale agile software development. The position is available within the Software Quality and Digital Modernisation research group (SQUAD) research group at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Karlstad University. The research of SQuaD aims at developing methods and techniques to continuously preserve, improve, and adapt quality attributes of long-living software systems in order to allow such systems to be maintained and evolve more easily.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science consists of the two subjects: Mathematics and Computer Science. It has a research and teaching staff of more than 60 persons. In Computer Science, research and education are focused on computer networking and distributed systems, computer security and privacy, and software engineering. Both research and education are conducted in close cooperation with international, national and regional partners from both academia and industry.

Duties

The post-doctoral fellow will work in a new industry collaborated project - Non-Technical Debt in Large-Scale Agile Software Development (NODLA), funded by the Knowledge Foundation of Sweden. NODLA aim to investigate Non-Technical Debt (NTD) with the purpose of understanding causes leading to the accumulation of NTD, impacts of NTD, and mitigation strategies in the context of large-scale agile software development (ASD) from perspectives of professionals and researchers.

Qualification requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • To be eligible for the position, applicants are required to hold PhD degree, or a degree equivalent to the PhD degree.
  • The degree must be in the area of Computer Science/Software Engineering, or correspondingly.
  • The candidate must have completed the degree no more than three years before the last date for applications, unless special ground exists.
  • Good communication skills verbally and excellent in writing.

Assessment criteria

In the assessment procedure, emphasis will be placed on the applicant's scientific experience in relation to software process measurement and improvement, agile/lean software development methods, processes and practices and understanding of software development methods, various frameworks to manage large-scale ASD (such as the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Large Scale Scrum (LeSS), Agile portfolio management, disciplined agile deliver (DAD), Scrum at Scale, Nexus, the Spotify Model and so on) in general, and technical/non-technical debt in software development specifically:

  • Publications in high impact journals and well-known conference proceedings,
  • Oral and written communication skills in English,
  • Ability to independently pursue his or hers work,
  • Ability to collaborate with others 

Terms of employment

The position is a full-time position for one year with the possibility to extend for another year based on mutual agreement. The starting date for the position is within the time span of December 1, 2021 and February 1, 2022.
