Description
Karlstad Business School, inaugurated in 2009, comprises the disciplines of Working Life Science, Business Administration, Information Systems, Law, Economics, and Statistics. Since 2017, Karlstad University offers a complete law degree (270 ECTS credits) featuring specialisation tracks in tax law, business law, practical procedural law, and human law. Graduates receive general qualification for service as law clerks. The discipline also offers a range of courses aimed primarily at students enrolled in other study programmes. Third-cycle Law studies specialise in jurisprudence, private law, finance law, international law, environmental law, public law, procedural law, and criminal law.
The discipline of Law currently has a staff of around 25 people, and we are expanding! We are receiving applications for a senior lectureship in jurisprudence.
Duties
The duties include planning, conducting, and evaluating instruction in jurisprudence, meaning legal philosophy, legal theory, legal methodology, basic theory of sciences, and the history of ideas of legal philosophy. Instruction is based on progressive learning in three first-cycle and second-cycle jurisprudence courses. In addition, supervision and examination of degree projects will be required. Read more about progression on the discipline’s website, https://www.kau.se/en/law. Instruction in adjacent legal areas, primarily human law, may be required.
Our next senior lecturer is an excellent teacher with the active ambition to help develop the Law Programme as well as third-cycle studies. 20% of the working hours are earmarked for continuing professional development. The position requires active participation in applications for external funds and in the development of the discipline’s external contacts.
Qualification requirements
To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer, applicants are required to hold a PhD in jurisprudence or an adjacent discipline providing equivalent skills.
The position in question requires documented pedagogical skill as well as a completed course in higher education pedagogy or equivalent skills acquired in some other way. In special circumstances, the course in higher education pedagogy may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment.
Applicants must have documented skill in first-cycle and second-cycle instruction (or equivalent) and have research experience in the field of jurisprudence.
For other eligibility requirements, refer to the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4 Section 4, and Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure.
Assessment criteria
In the appointment, equal weight will be given to scientific and pedagogical skills. In the assessment of scientific skill, special weight will be given to research tied to the field of jurisprudence and documented skills that can further the development of the discipline’s research. In the assessment of pedagogical skill, special weight will be given to the ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate instruction on different levels, as well as supervision and examination ability.
The language of instruction is Swedish, and special weight will therefore be given to proficiency in spoken and written Swedish. Special weight will also be given to the applicant’s expertise in jurisprudence and experience in multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary research through his or her own wide range of skills or research activity.
Considerable weight will be given to the ability to create national and international contacts inside and outside academia, and to attract external funds. Considerable weight will also be placed on personal qualities such as the ability to cooperate, initiative, and dedication.
The assessment is also based on administrative qualifications. Experience as a supervisor on a third-cycle level is a valuable qualification. Applicants should have strong leadership qualities and excellent teamwork abilities to successfully contribute to the operational development.
Terms
A permanent full-time position starting at the earliest convenience, as agreed upon by both parties. A probationary period may be required.
Application
The application should include well-documented qualifications. Applicants are responsible for submitting a complete application in accordance with the instructions and before the deadline. An incomplete application may jeopardise a fair assessment of qualifications.
The application should include:
