Description
The Grants and Innovation Office, GIO, is part of the administration and central services at Karlstad University.
GIO’s mission is to contribute to the development of the university’s research activities by offering professional support related to strategic issues, quality enhancement activities, research funding and innovation and utilisation of research findings. GIO consists of research and innovation advisors as well as financial and administrative support that assist researchers and research environments to promote the development of both individuals and groups. Our approach is based on the notion that research and the utilisation of knowledge and research results are connected, and thereby a naturally integrated part of strong and attractive research environments.
GIO also offers support to the university’s executive management in terms of the strategic development of the university’s research and innovation activities. In addition to the support provided to researchers, research environments and the university’s executive management, GIO also supports students in the development of their innovative ideas. GIO is also one of the leading players in the regional research and innovation support system and supports researchers and research environments in establishing national and international networks.
As part of the Grants and Innovation Office, you will contribute to both the development of GIO and to the development of Karlstad University’s research and innovation activities.
Duties
As research advisor, you will:
Duties will also including managing and developing networks and collaborations with various actors (regional, national, international) that contribute to the development and funding of research. This could include research funding bodies, authorities and other public organisations as well as companies.
In order to contribute to a good working environment and the development of our activities, you are expected to participate in the daily operations and engage with your colleagues.
Qualification requirements
The position as research advisor require an academic degree and third-cycle qualifications. Candidates should have experience of applying for external research funding, nationally and/or internationally. Moreover, you should have experience of advisory/coaching duties and have the ability to manage these tasks with a high level of service both within and outside your own disciplinary research domain.
Special weight will be placed on experience of developing quality systems for research, for example, related to research data, ethics or external engagements outside the academic community.
As the position requires the ability to work successfully with others, you have no problem working independently as well as part of a group. You are an excellent administrator who likes to take own initiatives. Since a large proportion of the research staff at Karlstad University are English-speaking and many of the partners involved in research and innovation projects are based abroad, you need to have a high level of proficiency in English.
Active participation in networks consisting of different types of actors such as authorities, research funding bodies, public organisations, companies, etc., is of considerable weight. We will also place special weight on personal qualities such as the ability to work together with others, good judgment, ability to take responsibility, commitment to the activities of the office and a positive attitude towards colleagues.
Terms of employment
The position is a permanent full-time position, starting as soon as possible or by agreement. A probationary period of employment may be required. You will be based in Karlstad.
