We are now advertising a doctoral studentship leading to a degree of licentiate with focus on research within the social child and youth care services – within the framework of the SAVE study run by FoU Välfärd Värmland.

Description

Karlstad University is looking for a licentiate student in Social Work who will be active within the framework of the SAVE study run by FoU Välfärd Värmland. SAVE (Support and Protection Against Violence on Equal Terms for all Children) is a longitudinal study on cases of violence within the social child and youth care services. Baseline data in SAVE consist of a one-year cohort of childcare investigations involving 851 children, which makes it the largest Swedish study within the field to date. SAVE is carried out in collaboration with 15 municipalities, FoU Välfärd Värmland, the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions, and the National Board of Health and Welfare.

The doctoral student will be employed at the Department of Social and Psychological Studies as part of the subject of Social Work. Karlstad University offers courses and programmes in Social Work at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral level. The subject is responsible for a bachelor programme in social work with approximately 350 students. The subject has a staff of approximately 25 people who are involved in research, education and external engagement. There is a close collaboration between the subject and the research and development unit FoU Välfärd Värmland, https://www.kau.se/fou-valfard-varmland

Research in social work at Karlstad University is conducted within three areas; Critical Welfare Studies, Studies on Health and Social Vulnerability at Individual and Group Level, and Applied Research. The department also houses the Forum for Violence Studies and Violence Prevention (Forum för våldsstudier och våldsprevention).

The applied research is mainly conducted in collaboration with FoU Välfärd Värmland. Participant-oriented design is central to the applied research and means that our research projects are planned, implemented and followed up in close collaboration with participating municipalities and organisations.

The subject of social work belongs to the Department of Social and Psychological Studies along with gender studies, psychology and sociology.

The doctoral studentship

The doctoral studentship comprises four years of part-time studies and will lead up to a degree of licentiate, 120 ECTS credits. The position may be extended if the studentship also includes departmental duties.
