Description

The subject of Comparative Literature offers courses and teacher education from preschool to upper-secondary level. Courses are offered at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level. In terms of research, the Department of Language, Literature and Intercultural Studies includes many members of staff active in two of the strong research groups at Karlstad University, the Research Group for Culture Studies (KuFo) and Research on Subject-specific Education (ROSE), as well as the Centre for Language and Literature Education (CSL).

Duties

Duties include taking an overall responsibility for literature education, conducting research, and teaching courses in comparative literature and courses included in the teacher education programmes.

An important part of the senior lectureship is to develop the subject further into an environment that encompasses both comparative literature and literature education, and to enhance collaboration with other disciplines, especially those involved in KuFo and CSL/ROSE.

Administrative and managerial tasks are included, as well as contact with the surrounding community, especially in relation to school. In order to contribute to a good working environment and the development of the subject, you are required to be present at the university and participate in the day-to-day activities of the department.

Qualification requirements

Applicants are eligible for the position as senior lecturer who have obtained their Degree of Doctor in Comparative Literature or equivalent qualifications in comparative literature, as well as demonstrated teaching expertise. Alternatively, other professional skills of relevance to the content and duties included in the position. Teaching expertise must be well documented and allow for qualitative assessment.

It is also required that the applicant has a completed course in higher education pedagogy. In special circumstances, the course in higher education pedagogy may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment. Assessment criteria

Equal weight will be placed on the applicant’s research and teaching skills.

Special weight will be placed on

· the scope and complexity of their research

· the ability to manage, lead, and administer research activities

· the ability to manage and lead collaborative projects on education and other subject-related areas

· experience of supervision at doctoral level

· experience of teaching at different levels

Considerable weight will be placed on

· experience of conducting research with relevance to literature education, or other experience that can form the basis for the development of literature education within the subject

· personal qualities such as creativity, good ability to work with others and take initiatives

· well-developed research networks

Special weight will also be placed on high proficiency in Swedish and English, as teaching is conducted in these languages.

Terms of employment

The senior lectureship is a full-time permanent position, starting in the autumn term 2021 or according to agreement. A probationary period of employment may be required.
