Description
Swedish as an academic subject at Karlstad University offers comprehensive education at first and second cycle level. There are freestanding courses specialising in linguistics and ambitions to expand the number of freestanding courses further[IS1] . The subject is also part of the teacher training programmes from pre-school to upper-secondary school. When it comes to didactics, the subject works together with the Centre for Language and Literature Education (CSL) – a research environment with the aim to initiate and develop practice-based research and development work. As part of a larger recruitment effort within the subject, we are now looking to appoint a senior lecturer to support the linguistic and language didactic competence mainly within the teacher training programme.
Duties
Duties include teaching at both first and second cycle level. Focus is on teaching within the early years education programme and you will be part of a teacher team that is responsible for the language and literature-oriented courses within the programme. Other duties include supervision, examination, course co-ordination and course development, as well as actively participating in the development work of the subject, department and faculty in relation to teaching, research and collaboration with the surrounding community. You are expected to teach both on campus and distance courses. You are expected to participate on the daily work at the department. Time for research and competence development is included in the position, equivalent to 20% of working hours. Within CSL, it is also possible to apply for further research funding.
Qualification requirements
Applicants are eligible for the position as senior lecturer at the department who have obtained their Degree of Doctor in pedagogy or Swedish language, preferably with a specialisation in early years education or equivalent. Applicants are also is required to show documented teaching skills, as well as having a completed course in higher education pedagogy or equivalent qualifications. In special circumstances, the course in higher education pedagogy may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment. Assessment criteria
Weight is given to experience of teaching wihtin the early years education programme, both on campus and distance courses. Weight is also given to completed early years education programme or equivalent, as well as work experience in pre-schools. Experience of language and text related work in a professional context within or outside of the educational system may also be of weight.
Considerable weight is given to personal qualities such as the ability to create good relationships with colleagues and students, take initiatives and actively participate in the activities of the department. This requires that you are present in the daily work at the department.
Terms of employment
The lectureship is a full-time permanent position, starting as soon as possible according to agreement. A probationary period of employment may be required.
