Department of Health Sciences

The discipline of nursing is part of the Department of Health Sciences at the Faculty of Health, Science and Technology and offers degree programmes in nursing and specialist nursing (prehospital nursing, intensive care, theatre care and district nurse), as well as courses, contract education and research programmes. Nursing is offered as the main field of study at bachelor’s level and master’s level (60 ECTS credits and 120 ECTS credits), as well as a subject at doctoral level.

Research in the subject takes place within the research programme Promoting Health and the Quality of Care. The programme is tied to the university’s Graduate School of Health and includes three research areas that partly overlap: Models and Innovations for Safe Healthcare, Handling Complex Illnesses, and Expertise and Professional Development in Healthcare. You will find more information at https://www.kau.se/en/nursing/forskning/promoting-health-and-quality-care

In addition to nursing, the department comprises the disciplines Public Health Science, Medical Science and Oral Health, and together we want to build a strong study and research environment within the field of health. This offers an opportunity to work in an environment that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration.

Duties

We offer varied work tasks, with teaching on campus as well as online. You will be given the opportunity to work with planning, course development and teaching as part of the programme in nursing, courses and contract education. Duties also include supervision of degree projects within the nursing programme. If you have a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Nursing within any of the specialisations offered by the department, you may be offered the opportunity to teach within that specialisation. There will also be teaching in connection with placements, which may include day trips within the region. As a lecturer, you are part of the educational development efforts and may also participate in the department’s research activities to some extent. You will work in a dynamic and creative environment where you actively participate in the development of education and teaching, as well as contributing to the integration of research and education.

We work closely with Region Värmland and value good relationships and collaborations with the local community. We also have national collaborations and travel may be included in the position to some extent. As a lecturer, you will follow the development within the subject as well as the social development at large that has relevance to work as a teacher. Other duties at the department may include participating in work teams, committees and councils, as well as having specific areas of responsibility.

In order to contribute to a good working environment and development of the subject, you are expected to participate in the department’s daily operations when based at the university.

Qualification requirements

Applicants are eligible for the position as lecturer who have obtained their Degree of Bachelor in nursing and a Degree of Master in nursing or other field of equivalent relevance. High proficiency in Swedish is a requirement as teaching and communication with students will take place mainly in Swedish. It is also required that the applicant has documented teaching skills and a completed course in higher education pedagogy or equivalent qualifications. In special circumstances, the course in higher education pedagogy may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment.

Assessment criteria

Special weight is placed on the applicant’s teaching skills. Considerable weight is placed on clinical experience as a nurse. Experience of teaching and/or supervision in nursing at university level is of weight, as well as experience of research and academic production. High proficiency in English is also of weight. The level of the applicant’s academic qualifications will also be considered in the assessment. We place weight on the applicant’s ability to collaborate with the surrounding community. We also value personal qualities such as the ability to work independently, collaborate with others, take initiatives and participate in the department’s activities.
