Description

The discipline of Religious Studies at Karlstad University is recruiting a new member staff; we are looking for applicants with broad theoretical and methodological competence in religious studies, with experience of empirical research and with the drive and ambition to renew and develop the discipline of religious studies. The discipline has a strong emphasis on field studies – we study religion both locally in Värmland, Sweden and internationally with a special focus on India.
We are working to develop new research-based teaching methods, such student-based research projects and academic placements, as well as forms of collaboration with the surrounding community. The discipline has been running a study centre in Varanasi, India, for thirty years, which gives both our students and staff a unique opportunity to do placements and conduct field studies in a multi-religious environment.

Duties

Duties include teaching, supervision, examinations, course coordination and course development, as well as actively participating in the development work of the discipline, the institution and the faculty regarding teaching, research, external collaborations, teacher training and applications for external research funding. Teaching includes both first- and second-cycle level courses within the discipline as well courses included in the teacher education programmes. We have both campus and distance students, which includes working with all kinds of education components including via the learning management platform Canvas.
