Research on special education at Karlstad University is currently in an expansion phase and we therefore welcome applicants who are interested in active participation in the development of project ideas and research applications. Among other things, we have just started up a new Master’s programme in special education with many applicants. This will mean great opportunities to supervise Master’s theses (30 ECTS credits) in special education.

The Department of Educational Studies has approximately 120 members of staff but we want to grow. We are active in all teacher training programmes at Karlstad University. Due to a number of planned retirements, we are now looking for a senior lecturer in special education with documented experience in the research field of special education.

Duties

Among other things, duties may include the following:

  • Teaching courses at second-cycle level, both distance learning courses and on-campus courses, within primarily the programme in special needs training, the Master’s programme in special education, as well as special education courses at first- and second-cycle levels within the framework of different teacher training programmes.
  • Teaching contract education courses.

  • Examinations at first- and second-cycle level.
  • Promoting a vibrant and active research environment and participating in the department’s research seminars.
  • Active participation in the development work of courses and programmes in special education.

Time for research and professional development is included in the position, amounting to 20% of working hours. Research hours may be increased if external funding is awarded.

The applicant who will hold the position as senior lecturer is expected to be based at Karlstad University.

In special circumstances, the course in higher education pedagogy may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment. (See the Higher Education Ordinance Chap. 4, Sect. 4.)
