Background
CTF, the university’s Service Research Center (www.ctf.kau.se), is one of the world’s leading research centers in the area of services. The center employs around 70 researchers and doctoral students, who conduct research in psychology, business administration, information systems, working life science, sociology, environmental engineering and sociology of religion. CTF is renowned for extensive partnerships with business and public enterprises. Our research is focused on challenges in the public as well as the private sectors. CTF is one of Karlstad University’s two designated excellent research groups.
Duties
The postdoc position is connected to CTF research projects on digital transformation and marketing in the music industry with a focus on how the music industry has changed from analogue goods-dominant logic to digital service logic. The transformation project aims to understand how the market evolves through digitalization and how it impacts on actors in such markets. The marketing project centers on how marketing is implemented in organizations and aims to survey and understand the significance of the practices used in marketing. Both projects include qualitative studies of companies and other branch actors. The duties of the position involve conducting interviews, observations and document studies as well as processing already collected empirical material. In addition to service theory, such as service logic and business administration theory, such as marketing, theories used in the project also derive from sociology and philosophy, such as practice theory. Apart from contributing to the research projects mentioned above, the postdoctoral research fellow will have opportunity to initiate own research. An ambition to set goals and strive towards excellence is expected. Excellence in this context is equivalent to publishing in journals at levels three or four according to the AJG list. The goal is to produce knowledge of relevance to academia as well as practice. The position mainly involves research and only some teaching and development work.
Qualification requirements
We are seeking a postdoc in business administration, psychology, sociology or working life studies, alternatively someone with equivalent qualification, for example a doctorate in ethnology or anthropology.
A person who has a doctorate, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent, in one of the subjects mentioned is eligible for the position. The doctor’s degree may not have been awarded more than three years prior to the application deadline. Applicants with doctor’s degrees awarded earlier may be taken into consideration if there are special reasons to do so, such as parental leave and illness.
Assessment criteria
Special weight is given to research expertise, particularly publications in international journals of relevance to CTF's research areas and the description of duties. Special weight is also given to skills in qualitative data collection and analysis. Demonstrated high motivation and good ability to work independently as well as in cooperation with other researchers and across disciplines are valuable qualities since research is often pursued in this way at CTF. It is an advantage, but not a requirement, to master Swedish since the data collection is planned to be in Swedish. Very good command of English is required, especially in writing, as articles and other reports in the projects are authored in English.
Terms of employment
The position is normally full-time, fixed-term employment for two years according to central collective agreement. The employment can be extended if there are special reasons such as parental leave or illness. Starting date at the earliest convenience. Employment is on condition that you have not been employed as a postdoc fellow under central agreement for more than one year in the same or closely related disciplinary area at the same institution of higher education/authority.
