Description

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences hosts the Centre for Research on Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CFBUPH). This year CFBUPH celebrates its ten year anniversary (www.kau.se/ youngmentalhealth2019). The Centre is one of the strongest research groups within the faculty. The Centre is regionally based with extensive cooperation with national authorities and research groups, nationally and globally. Our goal is to establish CFBUPH as a world leading research centre in the field of child and adolescent mental health.

We conduct and participate in research on children and young people's social conditions and health in Värmland as well as nationally and globally. CFBUPH:s research is mainly externally funded. With funding 2013-2019 from the Swedish Research Council on Health, Work and Welfare and in collaboration with University of Gothenburg, we study "Effects of Changed living conditions on Child and Adolescent Mental Health". The Advisory Board for the research programme includes leading researchers from Australia, Canada, Great Britain and Germany.

CFBUPH also participates in the psychology programme launched at Karlstad University in 2015. For more information about the Centre, see www.kau.se/en/cfbuph.

Presently, CFBUPH has ten researchers with various backgrounds in demography, public health studies, psychology, social work and sociology. We are now recruiting a professor to strengthen our expertise and capacity.

The position as professor is in the Department of Social and Psychological Studies with professional duties at CFBUPH.

Duties

The professor’s main duty is to conduct research, primarily in relation to trends and social determinants of young people's mental health. We will provide the best possible conditions for research and a successful career. A very important duty is to participate in efforts to attract external research funding. Other duties include teaching, supervising doctoral students, cooperating with external partners, and some administrative tasks.

Qualification requirements

A person who has shown both research and teaching expertise in a discipline relevant to the CFBUPH field, ability to collaborate across disciplines and ability to initiate and successfully lead research projects is eligible for this professorship. Experience of teaching at undergraduate, master and doctoral levels is a requirement, as are completed courses in doctoral student supervision and in higher education pedagogy. In special circumstances, these courses may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment.

Further requirements are very good command of quantitative research methods and English. For more information of requirements, see Higher Education Ordinance Ch. 4 sect. 3 and Karlstad University's Regulations for the Appointment and Promotion of Teaching Staff.

Assessment criteria

We are seeking a researcher with a doctor’s degree who has pursued research with relevance to the Centre’s research area. Considerable weight is given to experience of international cooperation, experience of large-scale population studies, ability to attract external research funding and experience as a principal supervisor of doctoral students towards the completion of a PhD. We also place great value on personal qualities such as cooperation skills and conscientiousness as well as power of initiative and taking an interest in others. A successful candidate who does not know Swedish is expected to learn the language.

Terms of employment

The position is full-time, non-fixed term employment with starting date by agreement. The organisation of work at CFBUPH requires employees to be on campus on a daily basis.
