Description
Karlstad Business School was founded in 2009, and comprises the disciplines business administration, economics, information systems, law, statistics, and working life science. We offer courses and programmes at all levels, supported by robust research in the disciplines as well as in multidisciplinary research groups, of which the largest is CTF, the Service Research Center (https://www.kau.se/ctf). Substantial national and international networks provide a good basis for new research projects and commissioned courses. Courses in business administration are mainly offered as part of three study programmes: the Master of Science in Business and Economics programme, and the Real Estate Management and International Business bachelor programmes. Courses are also offered as part of a number of other master’s programmes as well as at doctoral level. Around 1 000 students take the various business administration and economics programmes at different levels. Karlstad Business School also offers courses in a number of related disciplines, including the recently added Law programme.
This position as senior lecturer in marketing will be connected to CTF. CTF is a world-leading research centre focused on services and comprising around 70 researchers and PhD students in the areas of psychology, business administration, information systems, working life science, sociology and the sociology of religion. CTF is known for extensive cooperation with the business and public sectors and our research addresses challenges in both these sectors. CTF is also one of the university’s two designated excellent research groups.
Duties
This position as senior lecturer in the discipline business administration at Karlstad University will be connected to ongoing research at CTF. The position includes a research component (at least 50% of full-time) that will be financed through one of the externally funded research projects conducted at CTF – the exact project(s) depend(s) on the research profile of the successful applicant. The senior lecturer is expected to play an important role in these projects and will also supervise doctoral students. The successful applicant’s publication record should show a clear trajectory towards excellence. In this context, excellence refers to publications in journals equivalent to levels three or four according to the ABS list. The aim is that the research should contribute relevant knowledge to the academy, as well as to organisations and society.
In addition to conducting research and heading research projects, the appointed senior lecturer is expected to teach marketing as part of the Master of Science in Business and Economics programme or one of the other study programmes offered by Karlstad Business School. The appointed senior lecturer is also expected to actively apply for external research funding individually, or with CTF colleagues. In addition, the senior lecturer is expected to cooperate actively with the community and to be involved in the management of CTF and other administrative duties at Karlstad University, as needed.
Qualification requirements
The eligibility requirement for appointment as senior lecturer is a doctorate in business administration, marketing, or another field relevant to the specialisation of the position. Applicants must be able to demonstrate research and teaching expertise in the subject area. This means that the applicants must have extensive and/or other relevant research experience in the subject area. Sufficient teaching experience at higher education level is further required.
For other qualification requirements, see Karlstad University’s regulations for the appointment and promotion of teaching staff and Ch. 4 Sec. 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for appointment as a senior lecturer shall be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment. As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of research/artistic expertise (Higher Education Ordinance Ch. 4 Sec. 4).
Research expertise must be demonstrated through independent research in business administration with specialisation in marketing with international publications and experience of participating in research groups, preferably related to the research environments represented at Karlstad Business School. Special weight is given to qualification as associate professor (docent).
Teaching expertise must be demonstrated through documented experience of different working and teaching formats at bachelor/master’s level and/or doctoral level as well as completed courses in higher education pedagogy and supervision of doctoral students.
Teaching expertise must be well documented.
In the selection of candidates, considerable weight will be given to research expertise, and particularly to publications in international journals relevant to the research areas at CTF and the specialisation of the position. Considerable weight will further be given to applicants’ teaching abilities as well as ability to generate external funding, lead research projects and cooperate with the community. Since CTF needs expertise in industrial marketing, weight is given to research experience in this area, but this is not decisive for appointment. High motivation and ability to work independently as well as with other researchers are also important qualities, since much of CTF’s research is conducted in teams and across disciplines.
Terms of employment
This is a full-time, non-fixed-term position with starting date as per agreement. A probationary period may be required.

The application should include well-documented qualifications. We encourage applicants to include the names and contact details of two references.
