Background

In public health science at Karlstad University, education and research centres on children's life and health, especially in a socio-medical strand with a focus on vulnerable children and domestic violence, and an environmental medical strand involving studies of the impact of environmental factors early in life on children's health and development.

The senior lectureship is in the environmental medical area, particularly in research on fetal exposure to potential endocrine disrupting chemicals and the impact on children's later development and health. This is the focus of the SELMA study, which monitors mother-child pairs from early pregnancy and delivery to the further lives of the children. Research is interdisciplinary and undertaken in close collaboration with external research groups in experimental toxicology and risk assessment of chemicals. There is also established cooperation with national research environments such as Karolinska institutet, Stockholm University, Gothenburg University, Lund University, and, internationally with Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, as well as around twenty universities in three major EU projects with focus on endocrine disrupting chemicals. Presently, the research group consists of one professor, two associate professors, five senior lecturers and five doctoral students.

We are now recruiting a senior lecturer in epidemiology with qualifications in database processing and environmental epidemiology to the research group.

Duties involve research in the environmental epidemiological field on the basis of SELMA, which offers great opportunities for academic career advancement and development. Duties also include applying for external research funding and contributing to the academic development of the research group, as well as teaching courses in epidemiology and bio statistics at undergraduate and master levels.

The responsibility for the database includes receiving, processing, structuring, quality ensuring and storing incoming research data, to some degree in cooperation with the research database group at Karlstad University. Updating and maintaining the database regarding structure and ensuring database quality, as well as managing merging, division and distribution of data in the research group are also expected duties.
