The department collaborates closely with Region Värmland. The Oral Health section has an urgent, ongoing development project in conjunction with the National Dental Service to establish dental health programmes and an academic public dental clinic.

Licensed dental hygienists are in demand and in 2018, Karlstad University started working on a new three-year Dental Hygienist Programme with a view to offer one of the best study programmes in Sweden and thus contribute to ensuring supply of skills.

Duties
A new senior lecturer in Oral Health has the opportunity to participate in developing and creating the future dental hygienist programme. Duties involve programme development, teaching and research. Teaching includes planning, course development, instruction and examination in the dental hygienist programme and any courses, contract courses and doctoral courses offered. Theoretical courses, mainly taught in Swedish, are usually distance-based with clinical supervision on campus. Duties also include following the development in the subject and in society at large in areas of relevance to the subject and teaching staff.

A senior lecturer is expected to initiate and pursue research in support of developing and strengthening the departmental and disciplinary research profile in cooperation with other researchers and external partners, nationally and internationally. The position also requires active participation in developing teaching and research and in attracting research funding in conjunction with others. The position includes resources and time allocation for professional development/research at 40% of full-time in the first year and 30% in the following two years. Supervising doctoral students may be required.

Qualification requirements
A doctor's degree in Oral Health or related areas and a professional degree in Dental Hygiene are required as well as demonstrated teaching expertise and completed course in higher education pedagogy, or equivalent. Under certain conditions, this course may be completed within two years of employment. Duties require good knowledge of Swedish and English. An applicant who does not meet the language skills requirements can still be employed under condition that active efforts are made to acquire such skills.
