Background
The Department of Engineering and Physics at Karlstad University has an extensive activity in the fields of mechanical and materials engineering, covering both research and teaching. The department offers courses for the faculty’s Master and Bachelor degree programmes in mechanical engineering and the Bachelor programme in innovation and design engineering. The department has a strong research activity in materials engineering, complemented by research in mechanical engineering. The research is focused on advanced steels, fatigue, tribology and additive manufacturing, exploring the microstructure and its relation to the mechanical properties of the material. Both experimental methods and theoretical modelling methods are used. The department has a comprehensive collection of modern mechanical test equipment and instruments for materials analysis. A large part of the research is done in collaboration with industrial partners. The department also has significant teaching and research activities in materials physics. Scientists in materials physics and mechanical and materials engineering together form a large research group in materials science, CMM (Characterization and Modelling of Materials), that is prioritized by the faculty. Presently, the department has 54 employees, including 9 professors, 9 associate professors, 4 senior lecturers, 8 doctoral students and 13 lecturers.

The department is now looking for a research engineer in materials engineering. We can offer an interesting and varied job, with activities ranging from laboratory support in teaching to development of test equipment and advanced materials research.
