Description
The Department of Educational Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is now recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in the area of the digitalisation of teaching. There are several ongoing projects in this area at the department and it is desirable for the postdoctoral research project to either tie in with or touch on the areas addressed by these existing projects. More information on most of the ongoing projects can be found here: https://www.kau.se/en/pedagogiskt-arbete/research/forskning-hos-oss/digitalisation-teaching.
The Digitalisation of Teaching research environment is based at the Department of Educational Studies, but is connected to many disciplines involved in the university’s teacher training programmes. Educational issues stemming from different traditions, theories and methods are brought together and further developed in this rich environment. The appointed postdoctoral researcher is expected to form part of – and contribute to – a research environment that brings together the research interests of different fields.
Duties
A postdoctoral position mainly involves research. The appointed postdoctoral researcher will form part of an environment that includes several projects on the digitalisation of teaching. There is also a licentiate research school focused on this topic. The appointed postdoctoral researcher is expected to contribute to the research environment of the Department of Educational Studies. This includes active participation at the workplace in Karlstad as well as active participation in the department’s higher seminar and other relevant seminars. The appointed postdoctoral researcher is expected to pursue a sub-project in a structured and independent manner and to collaborate with the other researchers in the group. At the most 20% of the position may include teaching duties.
Qualification requirements
The eligibility requirement for appointment as postdoctoral researcher is a doctorate in Pedagogical Work or in another discipline relevant to the position, or an equivalent qualification achieved abroad. The doctorate may not have been obtained more than three years prior to the application deadline. If there are special reasons, such as parental leave or illness, the required qualifications may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons may include illness, parental leave, clinical duties, commissions of trust in labour unions or similar organisations, or other similarly special circumstances.
See Karlstad University’s Regulations for the Appointment and Promotion of Teaching Staff for additional qualification requirements.
Assessment criteria
Special weight is given to good written and spoken skills in Swedish and English.
Considerable weight is given to the scholarly quality of applicants’ earlier publications as well as to documented ability to cooperate with researchers in national and international contexts.
Weight is given to a doctoral thesis project that highlights issues related to the digitalisation of teaching.
Terms of employment
A postdoctoral position is normally restricted to two years’ full-time employment. Starting date between January and April 2019, as per agreement.
In order to foster collaboration we expect the appointed postdoctoral researcher to be at the department in Karlstad as much as possible.
