We are now recruiting a senior lecturer in psychology. The discipline of psychology with its more than 30 staff members forms part of the Department of Social and Psychological Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The department further includes Gender Studies, Social Work and Sociology.
Psychology is offered at undergraduate, master and doctoral levels. In October 2014, the discipline was given degree-awarding powers for a Master of Science in Psychology degree, and the programme has been offered since the autumn semester of 2015. In addition to the programme courses, we also offer subject courses in psychology at undergraduate and master levels. Since the start of 2006, we have also been offering a doctoral programme in psychology.
Work duties are mainly in the area of clinical psychology with specialisation in developmental psychology, but the position also involves duties pertaining to investigative methodologies and personality psychology. Other areas of psychology are also included in this position. The position mainly involves teaching and supervision of students on the Master of Science in Psychology programme, but may also include teaching other subject courses, commissioned courses and doctoral courses. Teaching may be offered in Swedish and English. Duties include teaching, supervision, examination, course coordination and course development, as well as active participation in the developmental work done by the discipline and the department concerning teaching, research and community cooperation. The position is based in Karlstad.
The eligibility requirements are a doctor’s degree in psychology or equivalent academic qualifications. In addition, documented teaching skills and a completed course in teaching and learning in higher education are required. In special circumstances, this course may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment.
In assessing applicants, equal weight is given to research and teaching skills. Special weight is given to applicants’ clinical experience as a psychologist with specialisation in developmental psychology. Weight is given to being a licenced psychologist, as well as to specialist qualifications in treatment. Weight is further given to completed supervision training in psychotherapy, as well as to teaching experience on a Master of Science in Psychology programme.
Considerable weight is given to social skills such as the ability to take initiative and cooperate, build good relationships with colleagues, and adopt a positive attitude to colleagues and students, thereby contributing to a good work environment. Further, considerable weight is given to executing work duties responsibly and being able to work independently. The position requires the ability to cooperate within the discipline as well as with the community.
Since most teaching is offered in Swedish, with some in English, considerable weight is also given to good written and spoken skills in these languages.
