Description
At Karlstad University, Comparative Literature is offered as standalone subject courses as well as part of the preschool to upper-secondary school teaching training programmes. Subject courses are offered at bachelor, master and doctoral levels. Most staff members at Comparative Literature are actively involved in one of Karlstad University’s designated strong research groups, the Research Group for Culture Studies (KuFo). 

Duties
Duties involve teaching Comparative Literature in subject courses and the different teacher training programmes, both on campus and as distance education. Additional duties include supervision, examination and course coordination at bachelor and master levels as well as active participation in disciplinary and departmental activities. The position includes a 20% professional development component.

Qualification requirements
The eligibility requirement for appointment as senior lecturer in Comparative Literature is a doctorate in Comparative Literature. Documented teaching expertise as well as a completed course in higher education pedagogy, or an equivalent qualification, is required for appointment. Under special circumstances, this course may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment. The successful applicant is required to be in Karlstad in order to participate in the daily activities of the department.

Assessment criteria
Teaching:

Special weight is given to applicants’ higher education teaching experience in Comparative Literature, with relevance to the courses offered in Comparative Literature at Karlstad University. Weight is given to experience of teaching on teacher training programmes, teaching children’s literature, distance education and blended learning. In addition, weight is given to experience of supervising independent projects in Comparative Literature and independent degree projects done by prospective preschool, primary and secondary schoolteachers. Weight is further given to experience of course coordination and planning courses that include both campus and distance education.

Applicants are expected to further develop their skills in the area of subject-specific education during the first year of appointment through school observations and a specific departmental initiative.

Research
The successful applicant should conduct research that fits in with KuFo’s profile as well as Comparative Literature’s specialisation in “Boundary-Crossing”. Weight is given to research in the areas of intermediality, contemporary fiction and popular culture.

Good knowledge of Swedish and English is required.

Considerable weight is further given to the ability to cooperate, build relations with colleagues and students, and take initiative.

The successful applicant is required to be in Karlstad in order to participate in the daily activities of the department.

Terms of employment
This is a 50–100%, non-fixed-term position with starting date at the earliest convenience as per agreement.

A probationary period may be required.
