Description
Karlstad Business School was founded in 2009, and comprises the disciplines working life science, business administration, information systems, law, economics and statistics. Business administration includes accounting, marketing, industrial economics and service management. We offer courses and programmes at all levels, supported by robust research in the disciplines as well as in multidisciplinary research groups.

Research and teaching on leadership and project management are important in a business school. Project management is included in industrial economics and involves around ten staff members. Five of these are senior lecturers and the rest are lecturers. A master’s programme that is offered on campus and as distance education is at the heart of our teaching. Project management is also included in many other programmes offered
by the university.

The programme builds on a very successful pedagogical idea, namely a teaching team that collaborates closely and many instances of experience-based teaching. There are many applicants to the programme and we consistently receive good student and alumni evaluations.

The focus is on general workplace-related projects, i.e. temporary forms of organisation with different degrees of formalisation, and several aspects are addressed, including the role of the project format in modern organisations, managing individual projects, as well as leadership and cooperation in project situations. Courses and programmes in project management are not connected to a specific sector or profession. At present, we attract students from many different subject areas, and many of them are professionals in different sectors.

Duties
The position is a full-time senior lectureship and the main duties are teaching, supervision and examination at bachelor and master’s levels. These duties are performed in both Swedish and English, and mainly in the area of project management, although other areas of business administration may be included. The successful applicant should be a good pedagogue with experience of, as well as interest in and a flair for, student-centred, process-focused teaching on campus and via distance education. The successful applicant is expected to participate as much as possible in the daily activities of the subject.

Qualification requirements
The eligibility requirements for appointment as senior lecturer are teaching expertise and a doctorate in business administration or project management, or another field relevant to management, leadership and collaboration in temporary forms of organisation.

A completed course in teaching and learning in higher education is also a requirement for appointment. Under special circumstances, this course may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment. (For other qualification requirements, see Ch. 4 Sec. 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, as well as Karlstad University’s regulations for the appointment and promotion of teaching staff.)

Assessment criteria
Special weight is given to applicants’ teaching expertise. This is assessed based on the ability to plan, conduct and assess teaching at all levels, as well as ability to supervise and examine. Research expertise is assessed on the basis of publications. Special weight is further given to good written and spoken skills in Swedish and English, as teaching is offered in these languages.

In the assessment, considerable weight is further given to good administrative skills and leadership qualities. Considerable weight is also given to the ability to cooperate, take initiative, and be involved in the subject’s operations as well as ability to cooperate with the community. Weight is given to documented professional experience of project management.
