Karlstad University is now seeking to appoint a Research Advisor to its Grants and Innovation Office.

Could you be our new colleague?

Duties

As a Research Advisor you would:

  • Support researchers and research environments to make research activities as competitive and successful as possible both in a national and international perspective. Research Advisors support researchers and research groups in long-term and strategic development of research activities as well as operational issues for specific research applications, both before the application and post-award for the establishment of research projects. A specific focus for the advertised post would be on Swedish national research funders.
  • Organise inspirational and knowledge-enhancing activities for researchers contributing to the development of both the researcher and research activities.
  • Support the University Management with the strategic development of research at KAU by coordinating university-wide initiatives.
  • Build networks and collaborate with various actors who contribute to the development and funding of research. Examples of actors are authorities, research funders (national and international), public organisations, and companies.

Qualifications

To apply for employment as a Research Advisor, you must hold an academic degree and be research trained. You should have experience of making applications for your own research projects nationally and/ or internationally. Furthermore, you should have experience in an advisory/ coaching role and be able to handle assignments with a high level of service both within and outside your own research field.

As the role demands good cooperation, you should be able to work as well independently as in a team. You should also be a good administrator and be able to use your own initiative.

Since a large proportion of the researchers at KAU are English-speaking, and, in many cases, foreign partners are involved in research and innovation projects, you should have a good communicative ability in English, both in speech and writing.

Experience in active networks consisting of different types of actors such as government agencies, research funders, public organisations, companies etc. would be seen as an advantage.

Description

The Grants and Innovation Office, GIO, is part of the External Relations Department within the central support functions at Karlstad University. The GIO consists of research and innovation advisors, as well as financial and administrative staff, and supports the development of researchers and research communities both individually and as groups. The includes assistance with different types of research applications, advice for those who want to develop new services, products and companies based on academic knowledge, and various forms of skills development for researchers.

The GIO also supports the University Management regarding the strategic development of the university's research and innovation.

In recent years, research at KAU has moved from being largely institutionally-funded to being increasingly competitive through participation in various national and international programmes that all include some form of innovation. Our approach is that research and innovation/ utilisation of research are linked, and are thus integral parts of strong and attractive research environments regardless of the subject area.

The Department of External Relations also helps university students and employees to engage in close collaboration with the surrounding community and offers support for students with regard to their contacts with work life, for example through degree work, internships, student projects, and mentoring.
