The Faculty of Health, Science and Technology is recruiting a project assistant to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science to work in the project Digital Well[MG1] Research, which focuses on protocols and services for 5G networks.
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers doctoral programmes in both disciplines and has a staff of around 70. Computer Science is one of Karlstad University’s excellent research environments and focuses on computer networking and distributed systems, computer security and software engineering. Research within the department is carried out in close collaboration with international, national and regional partners from both academia and industry.
Duties consist of research related tasks targeting protocols and services for future mobile networks, such as implementing new protocol features, carrying out experiments, performing data analysis, and documenting results. Duties are carried out independently, but with support from and in collaboration with senior researchers. The position also includes cooperating with external partners, which means that interpersonal and teamwork skills are important for the position.
Eligible candidates for the position have a Bachelor degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent skills. A good command of written and spoken English as well as Swedish is also required.
A Master degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science is an advantage.
Knowledge and skills in application-, transport- and network-layer protocols, multipath communication, mobile broadband systems (3G/4G) and wireless networks, as well as practical experience with network measurements and performance evaluation are valuable qualifications.
Personal qualities such as the ability to cooperate, to establish good relationships and to take initiative are also important.
This is a full-time position, limited to a period of 12 months, with the possibility of an extension. Starting date for the position is September 1, 2018.
