Description
Modern web development requires knowledge and practical skills in both traditional information systems and in new technologies. At Karlstad University, the discipline information systems specialises in the development and evaluation of digital services and systems, virtual tools, API management/integration as well as process-oriented analysis, database design for web solutions, web analysis and interaction design.

Karlstad Business School was founded in 2009 and comprises the disciplines working life science, business administration, information systems, law, economics, and statistics. Courses and programmes are offered at all levels and teaching is strengthened by disciplinary and interdisciplinary research. Karlstad Business School has an extensive national and international network, offering good opportunities for new research projects and commissioned activities.

We need to increase our teaching staff specialised in the development and evaluation of web systems and are therefore recruiting an accomplished teacher who wants to participate actively in the courses and programmes offered in information systems. Are you our new colleague?

Duties
Work duties include teaching and teaching development at all levels, as well as supervising degree projects. The position of senior lecturer includes research to an extent determined by available resources. The successful applicant is expected to participate actively in research applications for external funding and contribute to developing Karlstad Business School’s external contact network. Teaching duties are mainly confined to information systems, but some components in other disciplines may be included.

Qualification requirements
The eligibility requirements for a senior lectureship are documented teaching experience and a doctor’s degree in information systems, or a subject area relevant to the position, or equivalent qualifications. Alternatively, specialized professional experience relevant to the work duties and subject matter of the position is required.

A completed course in teaching and learning in higher education is required for appointment. In special circumstances, this course may be completed within two years of appointment as part of the professional development commitment. (For additional qualification requirements, see Karlstad University’s Regulations for the Appointment and Promotion of Teaching Staff and Ch. 4 Sec. 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.)

Assessment criteria
Special and equal weight will be given to applicants’ research and teaching skills.

In assessing teaching skills, attention is paid to the ability to plan, implement and evaluate teaching in information systems at all levels, as well as the ability to supervise and examine.

Special weight is given to teaching skills relevant to several bachelor-level courses related to the specialization (e.g. process and service development, interaction design, user testing, web analysis, code testing, web development, programming, database design, modelling and integration).

Special weight is further given to documented research in these areas and experience of the evaluation of web systems. Evaluation may relate to optimization, maintainability and usability.

Teaching is offered in Swedish and English and therefore considerable weight is given to ability to teach in both these languages. Applicants who are not fluent speakers of Swedish are expected to handle student contact in Swedish within two years of appointment. The university offers courses in Swedish.

Considerable weight is also given to traits such as ability to cooperate, take initiate and involvement in operations.

Weight is given to documented ability to build national and international networks inside and outside academia and attract external research funding.

Weight is further given to good administrative skills and the ability to cooperate in international research groups, attract external research funding [MG1] and develop contacts with the community.
