Geomatics is a subject in the Department of Environmental and Life Sciences at the Faculty of Health, Science and Technology. The geomatics section offers undergraduate degree programmes in land surveying and cartography and surveying technology and geographical IT, as well as courses in GIS and geodesy for the programmes in spatial and social planning and building and construction engineering, and courses in geomatics for future geography teachers.

At present, five members of staff in geomatics are involved in teaching and research. Research is conducted in collaboration with other universities and/or multidisciplinary research environments at Karlstad University, such as risk management, climate adaptation, landscape ecology and environment and environment and ecosystems.

Duties
The position involves undergraduate teaching and supervision in GIS/GIT, remote analysis, photogrammetry, and other subjects and applications in the field of geomatics.

There are many opportunities to participate in developing activities, both in terms of course content and forms of instruction, particularly regarding our programme courses.

We are seeking a senior lecturer with good teaching skills who is willing to take active part in developing the subject and who can contribute to extending our external networks. In addition, the senior lecturer is expected to apply for external research funding and to partake in departmental research.

Qualification requirements
A doctor’s degree in geomatics, natural geography, or equivalent is required as well as demonstrated teaching skills and completed course in higher education pedagogy. This course may, under certain conditions, be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment. Very good skills in Swedish and English are required as course content is ususally based on Swedish conditions and Swedish literature.

The position also requires extensive and documented knowledge of GIS, cartography, remote analysis, geographic database and web technique, as well as experience of teaching in higher education in these areas. In addition, specific knowledge and skills in using software for GIS, remote analysis, photogrammetry, CAD, 3D visualisation etc, are necessary.

Assessment criteria
Considerable weight is given to personal qualities such as abilities to cooperate, to create good relationships with colleagues and to take initiatives. Also administrative skills, ability to give information on research and deveopment and to cooperate with external actors are added qualifications.

Terms of employment
The position is part-time/full-time non-fixed term employment with starting-date in January 2019 or by agreement.
