We are recruiting a senior lecturer with expertise in industrial design engineering and a passion for teaching and research to strengthen our staff team and participate in training future engineers.

Background

The Department of Engineering and Physics has a staff of around 50 and offers courses for engineering degree programmes at all levels in the subjects mechanical and materials engineering, as well as the core courses of the programme in innovation and design engineering for students specialising in product development, innovation engineering and design-centred processes. Research in service design and innovation control is also pursued at the university. In these areas, courses are offered at master's level for master of science students in industrial management.

Research in the department includes highly developed research projects in materials engineering with a strong profile in fatigue and tribology studies, as well as advanced steels and materials produced through additive manufacturing. Many research projects take place in collaboration with several companies, regional authorities and organisations.

Duties

The main duties involve teaching bachelor and master level courses, primarily in the areas of product development, design and innovation. Courses in design emphasise design as a process and includes drawing techniques for product design, colour theory, analogue and digital modelling, and industrial design. Teaching in the area of mechanical engineering and other areas may be required depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications and expertise.

Duties also include research in design engineering aiming to strengthen and develop teaching in the subject and should be based on the successful candidate’s research qualifications and on collaboration with departmental researchers. Actively applying for external research funding is an expected part of the position.

A further duty involves cooperating and establishing contacts with industry as well as initiating and participating in external assignments related to education and research. Administrative tasks may also be required.

Qualification requirements

A doctor’s degree in design engineering, or related area relevant to design engineering, or equivalent qualifications, is a requirement for the position, as well as demonstrated teaching expertise in the subject. A further requirement is completed course in higher education pedagogy, or equivalent. In special circumstances, this course may be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment.

Assessment criteria

Equal weight is given to research and teaching expertise.

Considerable weight is given to previously demonstrated good teaching results and experience of teaching and course development in a wide area of design engineering, product development and innovation. Special weight is given to such experience from higher education engineering programmes. Weight is given to teaching courses in the area of mechanical engineering.  

Considerable weight is given to experience of modern digital engineering tools.  

Considerable weight is given to good research results, extensive research experience, and established networks. Special weight is given to ability to attract external research funding.

Weight is given to academic assignments, to experience of non-academic employment in the area of the position, and to good ability to teach in Swedish and English.

Considerable weight is given to personal qualities such as collaborative skills, to ability to create good relationships with colleagues and students, take initiatives and be committed to developing the subject and students’ progress.

Terms of employment

The position is full-time non-fixed term employment with starting date by agreement. A probationary period may be required.
